+Marcelo Dalbelles ..there was Varangian... I liked it, but think reckon this one is way more epic..so much more going on with this song. BTW, there actually a 3rd song that I've hears , ie. master of the land. they played it on a radio station recently and u can DL the entire 2hour show...I'll put the link here...and go to about 57m30sec mark...thats when the actual song is played..www.wcniradio.org/stream/wcnishow-2016-04-23-21.mp3

+Blakes1984 that's OK..'Master of the land' is an awesome track..very heavy, and as u will hear very DRUM oriented... just love it. Actually can't believe they were allowed to play this on radio. The same station may play 'born for battle' this sat...cannot wait. Btw, after listening to 'MOTL' and the other 2 songs, i'm noticing there is a lot of variation in JBs vocals. It's his range, variation, n deep muscular sound that makes GM a great band. Great musicians that for me easily surpassed their influences.. JB may like Manawar, and so do I, but seriously GM write n play better music. Consistent riff mastery + a great drummer + one of greatest ever metal singers = one of greatest ever metal bands...

Okay I'm gonna ask; what the hell is this obsession with vikings? I assume its to do with combat as opposed to their domestic society but vikings were raiders who stole, raped and pileged; not warriors who fought against equal forces in a balanced fight.... Against an organised military of the time they'd have stood little chance. Maybe I'm missing something but it just seems weird how people romanticise people who would be seen no more than criminals nowadays :S
@joshharasty838
@joshharasty838 8 жыл бұрын
+Tom Meakin First, the vikings did defeat many an organized force in their hay-day. They were renown for their fierceness in single combat. And if you look at old Norse culture, (Vikings were not a culture, but more of a profession) it was quiet progressive for its time when compared to its contemporaries
@Sauron930
@Sauron930 7 жыл бұрын
It's not so much the actual norse history metal bands romanticize, it's Norse mythology. That's quite a difference. And besides, the stereotypical Viking image fits alot better with metal than the actual historic vikings.
@toothsnaggleer
@toothsnaggleer 6 жыл бұрын
In this song the Viking metal means the power and artistry of Viking metal as element not as any musical genre. JB himself talked about and cleared in many of his interviews.

+Despotian There is not a single world in the whole universe that Grand Magus could even think of competing good old Manowar. After all its obvious that this is what they aim to reach, with no luck of course.
@Norpal

+Red21Viper That said though, I wouldn't mind hearing Grand Magus covering, say, Battle Hymn. It'd be a pretty good fit with the style they've been going for lately.

the viking metal genre is not a heavy metal gimic, Bathory is one of the most influential metal bands of all time...
@isaiahperrry
@isaiahperrry 8 жыл бұрын
Charlie Holmes Maybe it's not a gimmick by your definition of "gimmick". However it is a style of expression that is constantly about only one topic. A topic that was unique and interesting when it started, but now has grown tired and uninteresting. That is why I call it a gimmick and it's merely my opinion. You can agree with it or don't, but it's no concern of mine one way or the other.
