2 questions: why would we ask something from Imam Madhi, when God teaches us to ask God himself in the Quran, and Imam Mahdi also teaches us to ask God? what evidence does shia islam have from the Quran of a) the coming of the mahdi 2) why we have to be 'shia' or followers of the 12 imams? 3) does the quran tell us that we have to do or believe in anything in particular after the prophet pbuh passed away? like his shia or his sunnah? (which characterises the current sunni/shia split).

Al-Bukhari, in al-Sahih 8/127, records the following: Jabir ibn Samarah narrated: I heard the Holy Prophetsaying, “There will be twelve princes…” Then, he said a word that I could not perceive. So, I asked my father about it. “All will be from Quraysh,” asserted my father. Muslim, in al-Sahih 6/3 records: Jabir ibn Samarah narrated: I heard the Holy Prophetsaying, “Islam will be fortified for a period of twelve successors…” Then, he said a word that I could not perceive. I asked my father about it. “All will be from Quraysh,” asserted my father.
