Grand Prix 4 - Is the Team Dependent Power And Grip Realistic?

Just a little test of the team dependent power & grip feature in GPxPatch with standard GP4 performance. These test laps were just an example, neither of them were perfect but give you a good picture of how team dependency works in Sepang. Also a lot harder to to a clean lap with "Williams" than with the GP4 standard car, it's way more unbalanced and probably needs more rear downforce to compensate.

The amount of donations is bigger there because it includes everything. It's there where we're aiming for $1000

Interesting! I’d often wondered this myself, how much difference it makes having this enabled / disabled in GPxPatch! But never took the time to do a practical test like this, cheers Ted Meat. Enjoyed the practice session stream and looking forward to the race.

Thanks Daryl :) And yeah it seems to be very track specific how the team dependency works. I also did some tests in Melbourne and it felt more realistic, I think there my Williams was about 2-3 tenths off the pace which sounds more realistic to me.

I played GP4 just a couple of times, in recent years, as I already had gone into simracing decades-long pause when the game came out. I found it difficult to get a decent setup - although maybe it could be due to lack of experience! Curiously, when I tried the Sepang modded track for GP2, I also found it among the most difficult and harder to find a setup. It could be because of the track grip defined by the modder, though, as it is not a vanilla track... "battling with different issues with GP4 for months now, I'm tired of tuning and testing and adjusting." I also think that modding GP4 is more difficult than GP2, which is likely understandable as the programming complexity increased (GP2 still being a DOS game...) You could go with the team dependent way, we like to watch Bang cope with difficulties in the midfield! Besides, you're in Ralf's place, so any race should bring a surprise performance. But here we are, cheering anyway!

I think Sepang is a very tricky one setup wise. But I'm a complete beginner myself so I'm sure we'll learn in the way and by the end of the season I might even know something. There are constantly great tips in the chat during live streams, some of them stick and some don't but interesting to try different things. I'm struggling as it is so I'll keep the team dependency off for now. But it would be fun to do a career in GP4 with an external career program and start from Minardi. I tried it with team dependency on and it was absolutely HORRIBLE :D Couldn't keep the thing on the track, would have to set it up completely differently!

@@TedMeat are you launching GP4 in Win 10 or 11 with an emulation solution? I've done it in Win 8.1 but I imagine all the modding and tinkering might be easier in a dedicated laptop for gaming running Win XP... You could consider starting a career in a 2001 Minardi dependent car now, with no setup experience - change the name to Friedrich Yoong with a 2-year contract 😁

Thank you Ted! Didn't have so much struggle with the option in dry condition, but do you think that this can influence my horrendous pace in the wet? I can fight for first places with mclaren in dry, in wet i struggle to finish in top 6. Another thing, with the option enabled even if I'm fast, i have problem with the traction and stability of the car, is really difficult to stay in the road without spin or lose control. Is me that I'm bad or this option influence the stability of the car?

Hey! I think the AI is just very fast in wet. Way faster than it was in GP3. I'm also struggling to get points in wet weather, even with the team dependency disabled. They get the power in better, I think it might be because in 2001 traction control was allowed so that might be modelled in the AI. I myself don't use it. Also I agree with you that the car is a lot more unbalanced with team dependency on. Or at least Williams is. Also tried Minardi and couldn't keep the thing on the track, I think it would need a completely different setup :D McLaren I haven't tested.

Question: I can't get my wheel to calibrate to this game no matter what I do. I have the Thrustmaster T300rs. Nothing seems to work right. Not sure if you can help or have a tutorial on how to calibrate this to make it work. All my other sims work with my wheel. I am using Windows 10.

Is it a wheel problem or a pedal problem? Because with Thrustmaster (and some other brands, depending on your system and the alignment of Jupiter and other weird stuff) you need to combine the pedal axes to get it to work. I haven't found a way around it. Also remember to patch the game with the v1.02 patch if you haven't already, that fixes some steering issues.

why you dont choose team dependent power on and grip off. choose only power to be more specific.. in gp2 we can make the perfomance of the champioship a litlle easier with remedios slots and tyre editor , there we can manipulate the magic data, either in orerall or in specific tracks and make the race more raceable. i think there is a similar tool for gp4 called cm magic

Team dependent power kinda loses its meaning in this case since Williams seems to have equal power to the standard GP4 car, there's no any difference in straight line speed. Also I've been battling with different issues with GP4 for months now, I'm tired of tuning and testing and adjusting. So no tools for now, I just wanna drive 😂

Actually I posted a tutorial video about that but it was removed by KZbin for being "harmful content" :D Perhaps I'll try again some day but I have no idea what part of the video was harmful so I don't know what to change :( In the meantime, there's a great thread about this in grandprixgames.org, check it out. The URL doesn't work here but you'll find it if you type "gp4 windows 10" in Google. It's for Windows 10 but same applies for Windows 11!

@@marcoanzalone2505 Pedal problems? If so, combine the pedal axes in Logitech Profiler and you'll get it working. It sucks to have to combine them but with some wheels there's no way around it I'm afraid :(

Honestly I have no idea how to shave two seconds off that :D But the reality is I'm an average driver at best so it is what it is :(
