Repalced my seal with one i had from a mahle or felpro kit couldnt remember which. Felt so proud until i turned the engine on and the oil came pouring out like a stream. Of course its sunday and no oem parts available anywhere. Guess it will just have to wait until the new seal arrived 🤦♂️ 6 hours between the seal and replacing inner outter tie rods.

What caused the oil to leak

I have done this successfully on my second attempt, there are a few things i would add for those looking to do this for the first time. Do not buy a parts store seal, order the genuine GM seal or go to the dealership, aftermarkets are junk. Make sure you have something that fits around the diameter of the seal with a hole big enough for the crank shaft ready so that you can drive the seal in evenly. I chose not to use any silicone during my installation but if you do keep it light there is a small oil return passage on the bottom of where the seal fits it would be bad to block that off.

well I did it and its not leaking but how exactly your suppose to get the seal to seat into that hole would be useful, he pretty much glosses over that entirely.

If you are following this video to perform this task do not proceed just yet I failed because of this my crankshaft is still leaking. Other videos explain verious ways to install the seal the ones that use fender washers with outher things as spacers and the balancer bolt to press it into place is what i'm gonna try in round two. Outher videos say you can take a very large socket and a dead blow hammer and knock it in. Most of his information is correct but since he just glosses over installing the seal and seems to imply you can just push it in. this is not the case watch other videos as to how to actually install the seal because this is not explained.

The seal is literally pressed or tapped in. There is nothing special to the process. Make sure it goes in straight, don't tap/press on one side more than the other, and it will eventually bottom out. I used a large wood block to tap the white protective plastic that came with the seal.

Did you inspect the balancer for a possible groove worn into the snout? If it had a groove worn in, it should be replaced or repaired with a sleeve. The new seal will not correct that problem and it will still leak.

How long these sensor last? I never changed mine in 2001 Pontiac grand prix. Should I buy a spare?

You lost Me on the 2nd Way to remove the Seal ? Put Screws in ?
@in-depthdiy21233 жыл бұрын
The thin flat surface of the seal facing outwards, get really sharp screws like drywall screws, puncture it just enough to the screw holds and then pull on the screw to yank the seal out.

Hey bud I’m doing mine right now. Had a couple question. What RTD are you using for the inside of the seal and what is the torque spec of that crank shaft bolt? Thanks
