If GM would have had some good engineering, they would make the debris shield two piece and the trigger rings flat on the back of the pulley. The sensor would remove/install in line with the plug. This would eliminate having to remove the crank pulley. Great video though, thanks!
@wrenchrat4 жыл бұрын
Lol agreed. In the last several decades GM has had piss-poor engineering when it comes to sensors and electrical components. This is such a common issue I've replaced several of these crank position sensors on my '03 Grand Prix with the 3800 series II and 233k miles on the engine. Unfortunately, I'm replacing the crank position sensor once again this afternoon. My Crown Vic has over 430k miles on the engine and I've never had to replace a single sensor, computer or electronic controller of any kind. Ford's engines are definitely not as good as GM from a performance and efficiency standpoint but its sure nice to not have to constantly be messing with the supporting equipment for the motor - they just work. Sadly, this will be the last GM product I will ever own and I come from a GM family. Doesn't matter if the engines are mechanically superior if the rest of the supporting components are garbage.

7.25.15. The correct threads are M6 X 1.0 pitch X 70, 80, or 90mm long, depending on what harmonic balancer puller you have. I also used hex headed Allen bolts with 1/4 inch grade 8 washers. It helps if you spray lubricant in the threads first. Good video! 😎

It is better if you do not use an impact wench on the puller. Yes ONLY use the steering wheel type puller.The impact shock can pull the 1/4x28 SAE threads out on the balancer or strip the bolts. The balancer only has a few threads in it so be gentle.SAE threads are shallow. Use a wrench on the puller and tap the center bolt on the puller with a small hammer.Turn the bolt in small increments and tap tap turn,tap tap etc.Be sure to loosen the puller center bolt and back off the crank bolt as you go to allow the pulley to pull out toward you.Take your time and you will have a better chance of not screwing things up.If you have the Super Charged engine you will need 4 1/2 " bolts. I found only at Lowes some 5 1/2" 1/4x20 bolts and I cut the threads at the end off and ran a 1/4x28 die down about 1/2". Run the bolts down to bottom out in the dampener and snug up to just not too tight. Put a couple flat washers under the heads on the three puller bolts and you are good to go.

@markborrmannjr2 жыл бұрын
Check crank and cam sensors or you could have a faulty ignition control module.. these cars can start off the cam sensor if the pcm is still receiving the sync pulse. Ignition and fuel injector timing will be a default amount though.. so you could still have a bad crank sensor or wire in the plug.. also crank and cam sensors connect to the ignition control module, the module has 6 wires that go-to the pcm, 1 wire the pcm uses to tell the ignition module to stop controlling spark and listen to the spark signal the pcm is sending it via the 2nd wire. And the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th wires the ignition module is sending the pcm what the crank and cam sensor signals are . With a scan tool you can see the rpm of each sensor.. the 3800 is also known for the ring on the back of the harmonic balancer to come loose, which could cause a miss or faulty sensor reading. So make sure the bolts that hold the ring to the back of the harmonic balancer are right . So if the ignition module is bad it could be telling the pcm there is no crank signal even though it is receiving one, also you could have an issue with the wires between the crank sensor and ignition module, or between the ignition module and pcm.. there are no other causes
