Grand Seiko worth the hype? Grand Seiko GMT vs Rolex GMT Master II.

I cold called a Rolex AD, which is a no no.... But he said come in and talk to my salesman last Friday, which I did right on time. We talked watches and why I wanted a Rolex Daytona and I pled my case and assured him I was not a flipper. The watch that I wore to the Rolex AD was a Seiko Pepsi diver "J" model and I said to him I could have worn my brand new 2022 Rolex submariner in here to flex but I am showing you I am a true watch guy. He ordered my Daytona with zero hesitation. Seiko watches are awesome 👍👍😎

Yeah, I always wear my Turtle or G-Shock when I go watch shopping. In Hong Kong, you can kind of haggle a bit (especially since tourism here is dead) so its just "safer" to dress modestly rather than going in announcing what you can afford. :p

@@BatCountryAdventures you are so correct. I basically used a little psychology on the AD. I did not go in wearing a suit I did not go in kissing ass I didn't have an expensive watch on but the watch I wore was a watch like you are speaking of. People who are into watches see a G-Shock or turtle understand you are a watch enthusiast. Maybe they ordered a watch for me because they saw authenticity. Take care

Great video! I was considering a no date Submariner, but I fell in love with the sbge257 (green dial). I just got it a few days ago and I’m blown away by the finish of the case. I don’t regret getting it over the Rolex. Although I’ll probably get the Sub in a year or two! 😂

I love the 257. That green is spectacular! I still want a older Sub for my collection as well. Im not in any way a Rolex hater. I have one and I recently bought my wife a gold datejust with a diamond bezel. But, there are companies who are doing "it" better and doing so at a better price point. Grand Seiko is top of that heap, in my opinion.

The street name is Rue Saint Honoré. I purchased the GMT (Egale) watch but was a bit too thick for me. I also purchased the white Birch and Lake Suwa.. I found they fit better vs GMT. Nevertheless, Omega and GS are the only few watch boutiques that actually have watches that you can buy now.

Hey, great choice. I got this one last summer, just to have something to enjoy in that horrible year. The only thing I don’t like is that GS did not add a date window trim. That’s after 1/2 a year of enjoying it…

I had this exact conversation with someone about the date window. I actually prefer they did not do a trim. I think it would be too busy, especially if it's polished metal. What with all the hands, spring Guage, markers etc.

As a whole package, I would still say Rolex is marginally better because they are more robust and have better aftercare, especially when it comes to sport models. At the time of me typing this, all GS have to be sent back to Japan to be serviced while Rolex have much better global coverage. So for something you wear with less care, I will still go with the latter. Dress watches, I prefer GS for sure! White Birch and Spring Drive is just so much more exciting than OP. The way the light catches the indices and finishing on a GS is just phenomenonal! Yeah, GMT definitely don't have quick-set for dates. Explorer 2 and GMT Master II don't have it so you can go back on the date with the hour hands in case you wanna fly West across time zones.

@@JoeinPNW Mate, thanks for making the content! Enjoy the GS! I had my eye on that model but didn't have the wrist size to pull it off. I considered the SBGE211 but eventually ended up with the SBGA241 for its simplicity. :p

The Grand Seiko is way too thick and top heavy compared to the Rolex. The Rolex bracelet and clasp are also superior. I had both but I got rid of the Grand Seiko because of these reasons.

How does the thickness of the two watches compare? Spring drive watches seem a bit chunky.

I'm actually wearing the GS today. It certainly sits proudly on the wrist. It's a bit thicker in height, but nothing silly like a massive Invicta. I have 7.25" wrists and it doesn't really dominate or feel massive. The amount of detail in the watch sort of dominates the eye more than anything else.

Great and accurate comparison! I’m the opposite, I have the Batgirl so I went with the SBGE253 (black). My only gripe w the GS is the clasp, could be more refined for the money.

I agree. The clasp could be a bit "more" for the money. I'd have still spent $6500 if the bracelet clasp was much better and been happy. But, if that is the only gripe, I'm okay with it.

What accuracy are you getting with the spring drive when you wear it consistently?

Over a week I saw approximately 1 second. Could be slightly more or less, but I don't have the equipment to test for it. I'd be curious about accuracy over time or for those eith older watches.

@@JoeinPNW I own the first Spring Drive housed in the MM600 GMT. Watch was built in 2005 has never been opened and I'm getting around 15spy. Yes, per year.

Or you could buy a Rolex flip make 15k on it buy GS and Vacation for FREE!But don't do it ROLEX so awesome I don't care about flipping thats the diffrence in comparison to other brands!
