Awesome video! I know im late for the trip (hope it went well!), but I'll share some thoughts here regardless: - Sweet and well-considered setup overall! - Sum'Tec is a great tool, but much lighter tools (Petzl Gully, Camp Corsa, etc.) would serve you well. - Ropes are heavy! Skinnier ropes are less so. - Killer sleep system. The inflatable pad is fine, but you might get more warmth/lighter weight if you're willing to shell out for something like a Thermarest over the Klymit. Throw your pack/the back panel pad from your back under the pad to shield it if there are sharp rocks. - Nutrition is important on multi-day missions. Ending the day with some good protein and carbs to digest while you sleep will put you in much better shape the next day, so IMO a real meal is a must. There are options like cold soaking if you want to shed the weight of a stove.

MRE could be a good food option for a 1 nighter. No need for pot and gaz usually they come with a water activated heater pouch. Thank you for your videos, they're great and in terms of quality of learning they are amongst the best. Enjoy the trip,

I would currently recommend air chamber ground pads, but not that one. I have a Static V Short for summer. but I think even their insulated models are around 2 r-value and I would be shooting for 5 below freezing at night, especially with a quilt. I think REI Helix is close on weight but much better r-value.

only bivied for a route in the alpine once, but felt the accordion CCF pad was better than my normal inflatable backpacking pad. terrain was super rocky, and the pad was easily deployed for sitting and taking breaks, and let’s be honest, sleeping above 11,000 ft sucks anyway, so I was happy to ditch the comfort for peace of mind that I wasn’t going to pop a pad or fail to find a nice flat spot. cutting it to torso length and using your backpack for leg support saves bulk too. just my gumby two cents!

I know I'm late to this party decided to give this a rewatch but im a big proponent of hood bellow the the helmet at least for the sun hoody benefits include better protection, and not getting blown off. I find it whicks sweat and provides insolation keeping me warmer and cooler as needed depending on the szn. Additionally it can provide some security for getting hair caught in belay/rap devices.

I've spent quite of time in the Tetons. My recommendations: ditch the PAS and use a 120 sling that has multiple uses, replace your second set of cams with Hexes. Hexes are lighter and much cheaper to leave behind if you need to bail. Overall, I think your rack is too large. I usually bring a set of nuts and a mix of cams and hexes that cover sizes .5 to #3. The mix allows a less expensive bail. For the Upper Exum and OS, 6 nuts (every other size) and a few larger hexes will get it done. You won't need very many pieces. I'd also go with skinnier 8 to 8.5 mm ropes. 50 meters is my recommendation although 45 may get it done.

@@summitseekersexperience , the Tetons are awesome. You might want to start making basecamp reservations in Garnet Canyon as things fill up fast. I prefer the moraine over the lower saddle. The lower saddle can be miserable when it's windy. The caves are also nice as you can ditch the tent. It just makes for a longer summit day. The lower saddle definitely works better for The Traverse though.

@@FlatOutFE yeah, the reservations already filled. We had reservations for September but then decided to move to august and by then the reservations were out. We are counting on (and feeling confident) a walk up permit for one of the 4 locations… preferably out of the wind 😉😉

I’ve used a Klymit Insulated mattress in Wisconsin in early winter and I would advise against that brand for the cold. Now that R-ratings are more standardized, the R value for that mattress is very poor. I plan on using a different mattress for the cold from now on. It’s the seems between the inflated tubs. Those seems are not insulated and let the cold straight through 😢

I'm interested on what your take aways will be from this trip. Me and my buddy are planning on doing Exum late summer but it isn't looking like its in the cards for a couple reasons but who knows... The one thing that I'm curious about is your choice in 9.2 rope. That seams pretty beefy for your intentions. Why did you not opt for an alpine setup? I believe Beal has a decent price point for a set of alpine half ropes in order to shed a few pounds. Another thing I'm curious about is how you will adjust from the southern climate to the alpine climate. I live in South Dakota so I expect to have an easier time with the temps.

Yeah, I’ll definitely document the whole trip. For rope, on exum I’ll have two partners and I am not sure they will feel comfortable trailing on half rope’s so that is why we are going with fully rated ropes.

@summitseekersexperience we also climbed a colouir to middle Teton, but you will need two ice tools and ice screws. I would bring couple titanium ice screws anyway, as a emergency backup.

Is that your full rack or is it half and the other half will be supplemented through your partner?? I'm trying to get into trad this year and then trying to hit some easier Teton objectives next summer, just wondering how much gear I'll need/don't need. I would think with having to set up belays and doing long pitches you would want a double rack, but maybe I'm a little too timid!

im no expert but id ditch the Petzl connect adjust. Any specific reason to use it at all over the rope itself?

@@summitseekersexperience I sure would. You can always use pretty much anything else for your rap extension and use the rope to anchor yourself. Cleaner and less clunky.

Honestly, the more inflatable pads I try, the more frustrated I get. I’ve reverted back to the cheap, thin foam. Anyone else hate those?
