Discovered your channel on Jeff Pelletier channel. I am planning on hiking this loop you Jeff and Audrey ran in a day. I will however be carrying full pack and camping to enjoy the beauty of the Tetons. Longest day hiked for me 19 miles. Average 15. Not bad for a 73 yr old lady. Enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing

Binged your videos and when i saw the notification for a new one I was really excited. You inspire me! Glad you enjoyed Teton. EDIT: I am at the point in the video where you suggest the average american cannot walk 20 miles. Well, since i started watching you ive been walking more and more, and this weekend 1/15/2022 i was hoping to do a 20 miler. Its city miles but with a couple of bridges that look into the ocean. I'm guessing ill be at an average 3mph ideally 3.5mph so im looking to finish the walk at 7 hours. I did 10 miles last week non stop on flat trail. Ill report back tomorrow.

Good to hear you are taking in some of the videos on the channel. Love to hear your post-20 mile report. I think that is probably beyond what most folks would do for sure. Way to move.

@@FullTiltWard typing this from the treadmill. 30 minutes left to finish off 20 miles. My battlebuddy bailed on the trek/run so i decided to do it safely at home. Im 250, 26 and a smoker. Im in so much pain but im very happy. Around 40k steps. Thank you for giving me the strength and inspiration. Consider me a patreon sponsor very soon. All in all a bit over 6 hours for 20 miles

Beautiful loop and nice commentary. This one is going on the bucket list for sure. And I agree, it would be an ordeal for an average person do 20 miles in a day, even if completely flat. I appreciate you making the comment because I've found that inexperienced people tend to have bad conceptions of distance, elevation, time, and their abilities, and can end up just relying on (also bad) estimations from other people who just hazard a wildly overoptimistic guess
@FullTiltWard

Glad it is on your radar now. And yes, 20 miles walking continuously at a moderate pace means 6-7 hours of straight movement with zero breaks. I still think this is a tall order for most North Americans. Even some of my fit non-runner friends would be a question mark to be good for this distance.

I just started watching this video; will do so in sections but may finish it tonight so that this insomniac might have some thoughts of beautiful trails while trying to fall asleep :) Really enjoying this so far! It's been many years since I've been in the Tetons. Cool to see that you are not afraid of encountering bears and other wildlife. I get a bit "edgy" when I'm hiking or jogging alone in areas where bears and bobcats are common. I live in the Colo Springs area and there's signs everywhere in the open space and regional parks about said animals! Hah.
@FullTiltWard

Hope you slept well, my friend. And I just don't have the energy or desire to worry about animal encounters. Quite the opposite, I rather enjoy them.

Surprised about you meeting the black bear! But after watching the whole video, I realized that this was filmed some time last summer? We went hiking in Grand Tetons in the summer of 1981 and met a grizzly bear cub. This was one of the scariest moments of my life, since I knew the mom was somewhere nearby. Luckily we did not meet her!

The average American would not be able to do more than 3-5 miles on a trail like that
@Ryan-dc6lj
@Ryan-dc6lj 2 жыл бұрын
How many years of continuous practice did it take you to be able to do this? I've been running consistently for 3-4 years and can hike 15mi pretty easily, but the long-distance trail-running looks like a different animal... perhaps the lighter load makes it easier. Anyway, great work. Thanks for the inspirational videos.

I've run out on a trail near Kananaskis where three little furry butts are suddenly scooting out of my way on the trail around a corner - and then spotted mom down the trail keeping an eye on me. She brought the cubs off trail and treed them for safety while watching me descend the next switchback.

I think perhaps more of a juvenile than a cub. On previous runs I've come across cubs and mommas. What do you believe I should do to take these encounters 'more seriously'? Genuinely curious.
