Why so few views for this masterpiece?! It’s such a beautiful and atmospheric song. Heard it 20 years ago for the first time and it still sounds fresh.

The Sophtware Slump came out in early 2000. May well be the first solid gold musical masterpiece of this millennium - that's quite some achievement. I bought that album a few weeks after it came out and I've never been without it. I love it more than is healthy!

"Now I'm treating water", love this line because he actually worked at a water treatment plant. He probably saw so much of the waste and stuff people reject and throw away. Pure poetry.

Thanks for the trivia. I always thought he was saying "Now I'm treading water", which also makes sense, however, I think you're almost certainly right with your comment.

this sounds more than fresh even 23 years after its release. it captures the magic of technological progress like Ok, computer, but does it a little bit better.

what an unreal, fantastical band-- so laid back they should be from new zealand....damn these have been my 'new' favourite band since only 'bout 6yrs ago, never even heard of them before then....kn revelation. I am now in the process of acquiring, at great expense i might add, as much 'daddy obscura as poss. so a signed copy of..well anything really wouldn't go amiss plus i'll gladly pay for it, oh yeah. We love the slumping sophties

[Verse 1] Hewlett's daughter Loved her father And I think she loved me too For a little while [Verse 2] Hewlett's daughter I forgot her Now I'm treating water And waste at night [Chorus] High above the wrecks On ice shelves and glaciers I spy below the mess And measure the pressure Where sofas float on roads And somebody stole your guns Well, sir, I'm the only one To get back your stolen guns I should have been your son [Bridge] [Chorus] High above the wrecks On ice shelves and dressers With Crash United sewn On all of my dress shirts They firefell the roads And somebody stole your guns Well, sir, I'm the only one To get back your stolen guns I should have been your son
