my last assigned patrol car I had a Touch Master Delta Siren (standard equipment) plus a Whelen Alpha Siren I installed as a secondary siren (so I could run wail and yelp at the same time or other combos) then my dad's old Federal air siren he used back when he was a deputy sheriff in the 1970's. NYPD vehicles have rumblers installed on their service vehicles which helps in creating higher noises at the front of the vehicle which is used to direct traffic away from the incoming vehicles (e.g : Helps moves alot of vehicles aside) whereas the standard British panda van doesn't.

Rumblers are actually to give a physical feeling to the siren tone. When the rumbler is on behind your car that lower tone is like a really bassey car speaker, you can essentially feel it. Works wonders in NYC where sirens can get easily drowned out by other street noises.

Our cities simply aren't loud enough to warrant such a device. Our emergency services would be more efficient in traffic if ambulance and fire crews could legally direct drivers through red lights and if the general public were more aware of their surroundings when driving. The increase of distracted drivers due to such things like being on the phone don't exactly help the situation either.

i mean my first question is why are they there together XD. Think about it tho, NY is a very built up area with built up streets and a lot of cars densely packed honking their horns, whereas over here in the UK not that many people honk their horns and its by no means NY. So NYPD need louder sirens but the UK police don't. Still, when your sat in your car, you see and hear the blues and twos coming your way, it makes you move, and i think our police over here have more than one tone used in the video.

Very good sir Truth is something simpler to that They are different tones USA deep UK high Because of this the UK siren travels to nearly twice the audible distance compared to the USA counterpart However Using decibels or Db They are the same loudness So which one you hear the most when up close totally depends on what your ears like high pitched or low deep rumblings ect But another good point for the UK siren is that of you listen to the echos the USA one has none
