Love Grandfather Mountain,I have the Briar Patch campsite reserved for Memorial Day. Going to backpack across the mountain.

We hiked up there and spent the night last night at the Profile Campsite. Snow and ice was on the ground and very little wind all night. Nice little spot, but we found it difficult staking our tarps into the frozen ground. Live and learn!

Glacier! How exciting! It's my favorite park. Grandfather in February was chilly, but I loved it. I'll be camping there again very soon.... time to test out some new gear :-) Hope you have a great time at Grandfather and an even better time at Glacier.

was there a water source at that campsite? if not was there one close by? if yes how close?

There is a water source (Watauga River) before the climb to the campsite begins. On the way to the ridgeline there is a water source called Shanty Spring. That’s the last opportunity for water. To the best of my recollection that’s 0.4 mile from the ridgeline.
