If you think about it, The lyrics of this song might have actually inspired Scott to make the music box in FNAF 2. The song says that the clock stopped and never went again when the old man died. In FNAF 2, If the music box stops, the player dies. In addition, the line, "90 years without slumbering" references the fact that FNAF involves working a night shift. If you think about it, all the people who worked at the Freddy Fazbear's locations probably got insomnia. They were haunted by the horrors that they got while working, which prevented them from sleeping much.
@olivegem68532 жыл бұрын
That’s a cool way to look at it! I kinda feel like the parts where they describe how the clock is a great servant is like describing the puppet. It only wants the music box wound, always has a smile on its face. The idea that it’s a machine linked to a person’s soul is conceptually pretty similar to the franchise as a whole.

In 1962, when I was born my father bought my mother a hand crafted Grandfathers clock. It took over a year for the works to be imported from Germany. It was the centerpiece of our living room as I grew up and dad wound it religiously every week. The clock wound down and stopped precisely at the time of his death. It is now in my home and my most prized possession. Thank you for the full song. It is rare to hear it all. The tune has been a favorite of mine since childhood.

I am so glad to have found this. My sister received one of those Fisher Price Teaching Clock. It had a nice melody. One night my mother wound up the clock and started singing words to the clock. She had a beautiful voice. She was a music person, piano and organ. She has been gone since 2020 due to Covid. Years later, after my sister had grown, she gave the clock to my brother for his sons. So when I saw one at a thrift store I knew I had to have it. Now hearing all the words, it brings my mother back to life, even for a few minutes.

My grandfather's clock was too large for the shelf So it stood ninety years on the floor It was taller by half than the old man himself Though it weighed not a pennyweight more It was bought on the morn of the day that he was born And was always his treasure and pride But it stopped, short never to go again When the old man died Ninety years without slumbering His life seconds numbering It stopped, short never to go again When the old man died My grandfather said that of those he could hire Not a servant so faithful he found For it wasted no time and had but one desire At the close of each week to be wound And it kept in its place, not a frown upon its face And its hands never hung by its side But it stopped short, never to go again When the old man died It rang and alarmed in the dead of the night An alarm that for years had been dumb And we knew that his spirit was pluming for flight That his hour for departure had come Still the clock kept the time with a soft and muffled chime As we silently stood by his side But it stopped short, never to go again When the old man died Ninety years without slumbering His life seconds numbering It stopped short, never to go again When the old man died ._. nothing just because I wanted to sing along

My nan had a mantlepiece clock that was given to her as a little girl. It was only about eighteen inches tall and kept perfect time, never gained, never lost even after it's casing got damaged when one of my cousins knocked it off the mantle. My nan died aged 98 and bequeathed her clock to my mother in her will. The clock only worked for about two weeks before it started losing time. The chime no longer operated properly and even when fully wound, would only work sporadically. Mum took it to a repair shop and spent five hundred pounds on having the thing stripped, cleaned and repaired but even after all this care and attention the damn thing never worked quite right. In the end mum sold it and managed to make back her money but how that clock behaved after my nan's death, the fact that it somehow seemed to be mourning her passing, still haunts me to this day.

That depends on the area, but even in old times there were a few types of clocks. There were table clocks and floor clocks, for home. Where I live, they were called "box clock" and "wardrobe clock" respectively.

by Henry Clay Work I don't know why, but this song raises some serious emotions in me. It's a beautiful song that tells a great story, and Tom's rendition of it is perfect.

It's partially based on a true story. The real life clock that inspired this song is housed very near to where I live.

I've known this song since I was young, but it wasn't until fairly recently that I learned it had the fourth verse. I know the rest of it by heart, so now I'll have to listen to it over and over so I can learn the words of the fourth verse. I never realized that it was written so many years ago.

I learned how to play this on the piano when I was a little kid. Even at a very young age, this song always made me sad and wistful. Nice to listen to it here.
