When my father passed away in 1992, the clock he had bought in 1960 stopped working within a week. It could not be repaired, it being a German make. Now it is being driven with a quartz movement. The same clock face but no pendulum.

I was probably 6 years old when I first heard this song while watching Lawrence Welk with my family. When my parents had the house remodeled, my mom insisted on getting a Grandfather Clock. She absolutely loved it. When she passed 35 years later it stopped working. That song came to mind immediately.

Oh, thank you so very much for reminding me of those songs of my childhood. My parents were born pre WWI and I was born just past WWII, and they were music lovers, so I am familiar with music that spans well over 100 years. This includes nonsense songs like Marzyd oats, and yes, we have no bananas! 😊

Thank you for this humorous and well - crafted rendition. Could someone post the words to this song? About 2 weeks ago I found myself spontaneously singing the first verse. The rest I have forgotten. I will be 80 on Christmas eve. My dad sang this in his choir near or in Hamilton, Ontario. There was a choir festival outdoors every year with a whole day of choral singing by adult choirs. It was a day of beauty and heavenly sound wrapping around us as we enjoyed the summer weather in the park at the Annual Choir Festival..

Ah, the memories this gong brings back. My mom used to sing to my sister and I a lot when we were younger and my dad was away with the army. This is one of many songs and stories she had memorized when SHE was younger and used to entertain her invalid sister. I am now 66 and still remember a lot of them and this is one of them.

Oh how wonderful! I’m 64, and this song brings back to me the very happiest memories of a wonderfully happy childhood 😍. My dad taught me this song and we would frequently sing it together, with our own version of actions. Dad and I taught it to my children and we had a lot of fun with it. Now that my dad is no longer alive, I’ve taught my little grandchildren and we love to sing it together. My youngest grandchild has a particularly beautiful voice and she loves to sing it to her mum and dad. Thank you for the memories. I absolutely love your rendition of this song 😁

Wonderful to hear this song again! I remember visiting the Seychelles in the early 1970s, when James Mancham was the chief minister. Wherever he went on those lovely islands he took his band of Seychellois people, the Nightingales, with him and this song was sung regularly! The lead singer, a woman with a strong voice, gave it a very different sound and crowds of locals would gather outside with the band. Happy memories stirred by this entertaining performance! 😊
