All I can hear this whole song is "Skye! Take flight! Here we go, flying tensekein!" "Here goes my impact bomb! Ha!" "Expect an early winter, with lots of snow!" And every other awkwardly delivered but charming voice line
@bigthecat1002 жыл бұрын
Running it through the Dreamcast VGA adapter and a pc monitor makes it even more awkward, as the game runs slightly too fast and cuts the lines off a split second too early! So you get "Tenseiken sla-" "Here goes my impact bo-" and "With lots of sn-" 😂

Grandia II's music slaps! I've got a request in from last year for another track from the game I thought you might enjoy, so I'm glad to see someone else requested the fight theme. All of the major tracks have a wonderful blend of old-school jrpg keyboard or orchestra mixed with righteously great electric guitar, and it's hard not to jam the hell out. It should also be noted that there's three basic fight themes depending on how you interact with an enemy on a world map. This one is a neutral battle, where you meet the enemy head on. There's also a theme for when the enemy gets the jump on you, and another for when you get the jump on them depending. You then have three different boss themes depending on if it's a major or minor boss, and a final boss theme. Grandia II has a wealth of amazing music.

Aaah, Grandia ♥ While Wild Arms was my first JRPG ever, Grandia II was the first JRPG I finished! And I still love the game so very very much - it's fighting system is still one of the best I've seen in any JRPG! Oooh, I never payed attention to the loop before, it's so good! AND it wasn't random battles despite the game's age, you could see the monsters walking on the map and decide to engage or not (as long as they're not running towards you because they saw you) :D Grandia is truly under the radar though, I feel. At least here in the west. I just played it because my cousin gave me the game back in the days pretty much saying "I love this one, play it" xD

I remember renting it and blasting through in a weekend when I was a kid, and it left an impact. This song makes you feel badass in combat, and brings me such warm memories from the golden days.

I never had a Playstation, jumped straight from Mega Drive to Dreamcast. Grandia II is my Final Fantasy VII, it had that big an impact on me :) (Skies of Arcadia was close, but that came out later in the UK)
@SarahCharles92 Жыл бұрын
The first Grandia was my FFVII. I played that first game multiple times over, and then went to a friend's house a couple of years later. They had a dreamcast and I saw he had Grandia II... and my mind was blown. I didn't even know there WAS a sequel. By that point, I had a PS2 (not a dreamcast), and I was sad I couldn't play this sequel. A few weeks later, I saw the PS2 version in a shop and I immediately spent all of my pocket money on the game. Fantastic decision.

Grandia! That game I always liked. It fell on hard times in the later titles. The battle systems in Grandia is always been fun. Also helps they are stand alone titles to so you could hop in wherever. I remembered getting into Grandia 2 specifically cause it had decent voice acting (not common for RPGs at the time). Combat is neat in that your characters would walk around independently between turns and you would use skills and attacks based on enemy positioning and grouping. It has been a long time since ive played one though. This is the type of music that blends in my brain with other JRPGs like Wild Arms and stuff.
@bigthecat1002 жыл бұрын
The battle system is SO good! How many other RPGs can you just use a cancel attack and say "Actually no, you don't get to do that attack now." Genius! Plus the voice acting cast is stacked!Cam Clarke (Liquid Snake, Leonardo from TMNT '87), Jennifer Hale (Femshep, Bayonetta) and Jodi Benson playing a role so completely different in personality from Ariel the little mermaid it's crazy!
@SpaceBrotha2 жыл бұрын
I've always held that Grandia 1 and especially 2 had the best combat system in a JRPG ever. The ability to cancel enemy moves if you manage to connect a specific attack before the enemy completes theirs, combined with the fact that the characters had to take time move to the enemy to attack them made for some very tense moments during combat. Considering that the combat system was essentially turn based it was an amazingly dynamic experience.
@thenonexistinghero2 жыл бұрын
@@SpaceBrotha The Trails games actually have those mechanics as well. In the Trails in the Sky games, interrupting your enemy's spell casting is pretty essential on higher difficulties if you want to win. In Trails from Zero the impede mechanic is sadly rather gimped and I think most bosses are actually immune to it. I forgot what it's like in Cold Steel, I think it was pretty useful but I can't remember. That being said, the Grandia games do a beter job overal with the interception mechanic since the fights are pretty much built around it. Especially on Grandia 2's hard difficulty from the remaster it's essential. I spent over an hour on the final boss and most of it was a tightrope walk between dishing out more damage and making sure it gets as few attacks in as possible because it could put the entire party in jeopardy.

Grandia 2 has the best turn based combat system ever implemented in a game, the fact that the music is generally really good too is definitely a bonus. I've played it through a few times, solely due to the sheer joy of it's combat. The story's not half bad either, and while the english voice acting does suffer from the dub quality of the times, it's actually manageable, which is more than can be said for most dubs from that era. it's got a remaster on Steam and it's definitely worth playing if you're at all comfortable with turn based combat. While the whole soundtrack is pretty baller, my personal recommendations are "Purification of Darkness - Battle with the Parts" and "Cyrum Kingdom - Prosperity and Freedom". I would honestly recommend most of the soundtrack, but I'll stick with those two for now.
@thenonexistinghero2 жыл бұрын
It's not exactly a full turn-based combat system. It's pretty much the ATB system (Active Time Battle), which blends turn-based combat with realtime elements. But it is amazing. The Xenoblade games are often called 'action combat systems', but that's also not quite right. They also use an ATB system. Well, FFXII calls it ADB but it's essentially just an ATB system with more realtime elements. Closest to Grandia's combat system would be the Trails games. So Trails in the Sky (trilogy), Trails from Zero and Trails from Azure (duology) and Trails from Cold Steel (4 games). Well, there's a few more as well in the series, it's pretty damn huge in scope. They're not exactly the same as Grandia, but there is an interruption mechanic where you cancel some attacks that enemies throw at you (mostly when they're casting arts, but... it also works against you).

It only has 2 premier JRPG's. This one and Skies of Arcadia. Both of them are amazing though. I wish they remastered SoA. Only feature they'd need to add is speeding up battles (which I think is probably a given with how slow the ship battles were, even if epic).

Grandia 2 is from 2001. And this song is from generic combat. You hear it during combat in dungeons, while going through forests, tracing mountains, going through reefs, ancient military bases, devilish moon and inside body of evil god. So yeah, this song has to fit so many locales. And yes, Grandia 2 is VERY traditional JRPG. Boss themes are different. So yeah, you're very accurate.
