Being the fifth generation to carry on the family business comes with an enormous amount of pressure, but luckily, Elena and Elisabetta Tramontin are also filled with passion. Being the very first women to get into the gondola-making business in Venice, the Tramontin Sisters got this love and passion from seeing their father work at the family Squerro where he would craft those iconic Venetian vessels for the gondoliers of the City of Canals.
In this new episode of Journey to Excellence, we met with the Tramontin Sisters, Elena and Elisabetta, who have taken up the family Squerro and decided to carry on with the family business of making gondolas. As the fifth generation of the Tramontin, and the very first women in Venice, to undertake this challenge, they tell us about their family legacy and their goals in this unique profession.

Gentlemen, I am fascinated! I never knew that Gondolas are really so precious and how many many hours are needed to create these. The ornaments, the painting and the wonderful silhouette are really unique. No wonder these boats are so expensive. I just found out about a book by Meredith F. Small, a professor emerita from Cornell University: "Inventing the World" about how many things used today have been invented by the Venetians. A stunning read! Anyway, thank you for another stunning video!
