Venice has always been a very economical holiday for me. I go for around 4 days, rent an apartment, buy groceries from shops and the early morning boats that bright fresh fruit and vegetables to their piazza market stands and eat one or two meals in casa each day, walk, and catch traghetti (the functional, mostly standing, "ferry" boat gondole that locals use along the Grand Canal) for about 2 or 3 Euro, and only go out to eat or drink in local or establishments off of the well trodden tourist trails. I usually spend, with the rental shared with one or two others, about €30 to €50 per day in total. When I've been by myself, I've stayed in a nunnery to make the trip even cheaper, and keep my money for the galleries and museums.

@BHBULOP4 ай бұрын

Grazie, all excellent tips. As a Canadian who stayed in Venice for the month of April 2022, I can confirm that these are things all tourists need to know. One DO I might add is to learn a few phrases in Italian, the basic please, thank you, good morning, where is the bathroom, how much does that cost? It is so appreciated when you at least try. I had a wonderful time living in Castelo like a local and going to places not many tourists take the time to see. Venice is enchanting, the history amazing and the people are wonderful. Yep, the food is pretty darn good too. Esplorare Venezia, trova i suoi tesori nascosti. Innamorarsi del suo fascino 💖

I agree with most of what you said except for one thing. Venice has little to no benches, so that forces people to sit on steps and other areas. If the city doesn't like people doing that then they should invest in some benches. Other than that, Venice is one of my favorite cities to visit.

I have always found Italians lovely, helpful, and VERY courteous. I work at being respectful, and over the years have learned to get along in Italian, but even when I only knew Grazie and Buongiorno, they never failed to reciprocate. I usually rent an apartment, and I often receive little welcome gifts from the owners, and in turn I leave then a thank you gift. As for the Venetians or Veneziani, I LOVE chatting with them and getting to know them, and find the SO FRIENDLY, even in the most tourist trodden paths, they respond very well to anyone who makes an effort to treat them with respect and not as service (I saw an American in this feed refer to them as Venusians, but they are not from Venus, and call the locales "rude." I'd be rude too with tourist who did not know where they were or could not be bothered to learn). Fare una bella figura and sempre cortesia.

Not sure. My experience was horrible in Venice: got shouted at very rudely twice. I am very polite and always greet in local language entering & leaving the establishment. I was refused to be served at a Bar/deli and fruit shop because I didn’t speak Italian. Not only refused but shouted at. After Venice, I travelled to Paris and despite not speaking French my polite Bonjour and smile was reciprocated by warm welcomes everywhere. I am traveling again to Venice for the art Biennale this year, hope it’s a different experience.

I agree on all your points with the caveat that sometimes you need a big bag -- like if you're staying in Venice for two full weeks during Carnevale and have costumes with you as well! 😆But to your point, if you need a big bag, take a private water taxi to/from the airport or train station right to your hotel. It's expensive, but you can't walk through the city dragging a big roller bag on those stones and through those crowds.

My first visit to Venice was part of one of my first international trips. I had not yet learned to pack light, and somewhere i got the idea I should pack all that stuff in more small bags rather than fewer large ones. As a result, my partner and I ended up with FIVE bags total. My partner was disabled and unable to carry any, so it was left to me to lug them all from the vaparetto stop, over countless cobblestones, and over several bridges, to our hotel (and back at the end of the stay). Needless to say, I learned my lesson, and Venice was a very good teacher. Guys, thanks for another good and helpful video. I'm returning to Venice in October (with one suitcase). Lucky me!

I'm in Venice at the moment, if you need to drop your bags at your Airbnb, then by all means do it. Many people still do and so did I. I visited St, Marcos Vasilicca yesterday and went to Doge's palace today, the experience was awesome. Every morning we have gone to Dolce Vita for awesome pastries for breakfast. We started our travels landing in Rome immediately went to Venice. Here's some advise, invest in a butt pillow for the loooong plain ride and for any long train rides. Get a European sim card and bring your European wall outlet and or adapters.

Are there any traditional Venetian foods that are suitable for vegetarians? Everything I find seems to be all seafood based 😭 I don't want to miss out.
@TravelAddictsLife7 ай бұрын
There are a few vegetarian options for sure, for example the typical raicchio of Venice that is prepared in several ways is delicious!

I live in Venice and the shoe thing is also important because the streets can be dirty and dusty. This is the reason that I never wear open toe shoes. Even when I go to Lido, I wear regular shoes and switch to my flip flops when we get to the beach.

Since you live there, how many times it flooded in 2023? Did the barrier system do any good?
@TravelAddictsLife8 ай бұрын
@sgrouev7907 last year it did not flood very much at all
@scaryboat8 ай бұрын
@@User2754-s in 2023, Venice did not experience many high water incidents. I believe they only had to use the Mose one or two times. However, water in St. Mark's square is a regular occurrence so always be prepared for that.

May I ask skip the line tickets you mean in the video are tickets we need to buy online in advance on any sites instead of buying at the ticket office? Or even with the online ticket you still have to buy skip the line ticket to have entrance priority?
@TravelAddictsLife6 ай бұрын
The skip the line tickets give you priority entrance, you can buy then using the link we have left in the description or using any other operator that offer that service.

Hi, love your channel! Just wanted to ask your thoughts on which to visit in Venice, the doges palace or St Mark's Church? The skip the line tickets for both are too much for a family of 5. Visiting from Sydney in April 2024. 🎉
@TravelAddictsLife Жыл бұрын
The Doge Palace is definitely our pick. One thing you can do is to go to St. Mark's very early when they just open and wait in line maybe it won't be too busy. Then after the Church go the Doge Palace with the skip the line
