My wife has been salivating for her grandma Janowczyk's poppy seed cake. She would describe as I searched online until we found your recipe and I showed her this video. She got very excited and said That's it! She agrees that a hint even of almond extract would be nice. Thank you for this video...I am off to the store.

I baked this delicious cake for years and somehow forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder. For the person who objects to the veggie oil, melt the same amount of butter and use it instead of the oil. It's fat, too, but it doesn't come from a factory. I have to mention that the background music is annoying, but you made a lovely video. Thank you.

I Add an extra jar of dried poppy seed soaked in boiling water overnight - drained+ vanilla - as is it is an awsome cake! I took a store bought choc or fudge icing - nuked it for 30 sec to liquify it and glazed the cake ---- they changed the recipe on the label ---- this the best and easy

Good luck with the cake elbow! The cake looks great! I was wanting to add chocolate chips and a glaze on top but this looks like the healthier option. I don't think I ever had a cake with poppy seed in it so I don't know what kind of flavor it adds.

Glaze maybe, chocolate chips a big no. This cake is very rich due to the poppyseed pastry filling. No need for chips. Poppyseed goes will with almonds and lemon. So maybe adding almond or lemon extract would add more flavor. The crust is delicious and has a chewy texture. The glaze may change that. Thanks for watching!!

I get you're using a family traditional recipe, but I would never use that much oil in a cake or loaf. Butter would be better suited IMO, 1 cup or 2 sticks and add an extra egg to sub. I've used oil in a traditional Ukrainian poppy seed cake that uses breadcrumbs instead of flour, it tastes amazing and light despite the high amt of oil. I'll be trying that one with butter to see if it's too dry that way.

I have been making this for years using the recipe behind the label. The label is not that hard getting off as the can is ribbed. Mine is on the exhaust hood with those magnetized photo sleeves.

I also use the original recipe on the can--it has sour cream, butter, and vanilla. No milk. I also don't bother to separate the eggs, I throw them in whole and it works just fine. Anything to make it easier. I wonder which of the two cakes would win the taste test??

PLEASE...PLEASE...ONLY ADD VANILLA EXTRACT TO A POPPYSEED CAKE! DO NOT EVER add any other flavorings like lemon or almond to a Poppy Seed Cake Recioe. My recipe from my former neighbor from Yugoslavia is somewhat different (richer). And she warned against this! Never add other flavorings to Poppy Seed, Poundcake, et al. PLEASE...if you want a Lemon or Almond Cake, make those! This is not a lemon or almond cake. THIS IS A POPPY SEED CAKE!!!!

You shouldn't look for cakes or desserts recipes. There are many other channels with vegan desserts. Though ANY dessert in the world will have glucose (sugar) and any kind of FAT ....otherwise it would not be a dessert.
