I have a 99 Ford Taurus to this day March 2024 ~ It has 260,000 miles on it and still runs! It has be the most reliable car I've ever owned. I dunno how much more life she has, but I'm going to keep driving it until she has had enuff of the road. Great little cars!!

Love it! There was a time you could buy these for $500-$1000 and no one wanted them.

my late dad had one of those, she was white. he drove an older version of it, and then upgraded to an identical taurus to this one. she ran great for so many years till again he upgraded to a 2003 taurus and died after a year or two. I miss him so much now. I wish if i could find a taurus and drive it :(

My mother in law gave me her' s about 6 moths before she passed. 99 with 125k sat for 4 years. Very well maintained. But sitting is no friend of a car. So after a few thousand dollars , I took mom in law out for birthday lunch in it. She was pleased. As you said, a very nice driving car. No plans to sell it.

Went to Florida on holiday with my young boys and wife in 1998 for 2 weeks. My hire car was a Ford Taurus, my boys thought it was so cool, but the boot (trunk) was tiny. Took 3 suitcases, 2 for our trip, one to fill up with great value cloths from the US. Loved the car, it was a dang good, automatic, I even allowed my 10 year old son a shot in the the hotel parking lot, sitting on my knee, please (don`t tell the cops or his Mum) 🤣 He loved it, but his Mother was furious 🤣Did over 3000 miles in 15 days heading to the Keys, great car, easy to drive and comfortable too.

Ford came a long way in the late 90's. In 1984, my first vehicle purchase was an '83 Mercury Lynx. My Lawd was she a trainwreck, couldn't keep fluids in that damn thing. Nothing but Toyta/Lexus since that first buy & at this stage of life I don't think I'll ever leave the Toyota group!!

Also, in defense of the the 3rd gen, They shared the suspension with the 2nd gen SHO, passive rear steering etc. And the "jellybean" was actually designed by Ghia. One of ford's last really great cars IMO.

That’s so awesome and I know how much we both love Column Shifters! Beautiful sedan. Vulcan v6 is a good engine I hear compared to Duratech like in the escape.

Is the LX’s interior different than the SE? I myself have a ‘99 SE and the climate control has the buttons. But I’ve also seen others have the gear shift in the center (mine is on the wheel as is seen here). Yet my manual shows the knobs and the gear shift in the center. Surprised to see that many variations

LX was the base level trim like this one in the video. GL was the mid level and most popular trim under the SHO. GL was only made for 96 and 97. By 98 and 99 the GL became the SE exact same trim level except the SE could be equipped like a SHO in V6 form. My Dad had a silver 96 Taurus GL he bought used in summer of 98, it was loaded with the 15 inch 5 spoke sport silver painted aluminum wheels, floor shift, duratec motor, mach audio and a special designed for 96 only grey with a purplish marble plush cloth bucket seating interior. Was a sharp car and I learned to drive in it and became my first car in 2004. Miss it! Would love another if could ever find one like it again

Had a 96 3.0L back in 2001 first thing that went bad was the freeze plugs at 60k coolant was everywhere. Then the transmission went out at 88k. It was overwhelmingly under powered. I hated that car it was the worst!

I own a 2003 with 80,000, Vulcan engine, starts in sub zero weather every time. But the body self destructs from the under carriage up. Rust, rust and more rust. Rocker panels, wheel wells. These won't stand up to Chicago winter road salt...it's like nitric acid to these vehicles. In the sunny south, at least the body will last, not up here in the snow and salt belt.
@RYMAN13212 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve noticed my ‘99 Taurus has rust forming mainly near the back wheels. And yes, one of the Rocker Panels is rusting out pretty bad, in fact I just noticed it the other day. Doubtful I’ll find any replacements for how old the vehicle is at this point though
