Making the most of Grandma Wallaby’s willingness to be patted by us. Cool to be able to get that close but we don’t want the wallabies to become too trusting of humans.
Sadly not all humans can be trusted. Humans often also have dogs who don’t always understand they need to use their manners with our beautiful wildlife!
But this was a happy ending today for our lovely little Grandma Wallaby!!
Wow, so excited and thankful we were able to help Great Grandma by removing a tick from her back.
The wallabies here are wild and we have never been able to get close enough to pat them. Let alone do something like remove a tick.
Grateful the wallaby with a problem was the tamest out of all of them. Grandma Wallaby is the one I have been quietly speaking to as I walk past, when I’m gardening. She is here most days.
We do have paralysis ticks here but I believe it was just a cattle tick. It did seem to be making her sick and weak, though. We don’t think she was eating much.
But so glad, I could remove the tick intact and it won’t trouble her any more!

OUR STORY...
My husband and I have about two acres of useable land for fruit trees and a back yard veggie patch in Far North Queensland, Australia.
The rest of our land has lots of rocks, a couple of dams teeming with frogs, toads and many, many other creatures elsewhere! Including a mob of very cute Pretty Faced Wallabies and quite a few smaller Australian marsupials.
I used to live in a temperate zone, a long way south, in Melbourne. I felt like I needed to learn to garden all over again, when we landed here almost three years ago!
So if you’d like some gardening tips on the tropics or you’d just like to see what we are up to, come along for the ride!
And I’ll see you here, next time!
