Getting Eaten Alive By No-see-um's In Florida!

We made it to Sunny Florida and are getting eaten alive by noseem's, So far collecting seashells with the grandkids on Sanibel Island has been the highlight of our trip.

What a beautiful trip and with your family that’s the best 👍🥰 I can relate about the seashells. Because every Christmas I feel bad for the Christmas trees at the Christmas tree farms that are cut to sale And they don’t get picked /selected for a home I wanna take them all home and just decorate them in my yard I feel sorry for them. That may sound silly but I feel they’re cut down and now no one picked them for their home for the holidays lol !😔. Going to die and never been in a beautiful home to celebrate the holidays I know I’m over thinking it giggles ! But the older we get we overthink everything lol ! My husband mobile RV the kids where in junior high we kept the RV. Stock with supplies except cold items. Every place we went people was so nice . One place had a in the ground smoker this nice couple put a pig in the smoker and invited everyone to join them we brought side dish they asked if we all bring our own side dish. After dinner we sat around a camp fire and sang 2 had guitars. With my health has gotten bad I can't go camping anymore but I'll tell you RV camping is the best. I used to collect seashells head of course I did pick out the prettiest. Ones to. Love you. God Bless

You two are so cute together. I loved hearing your side of all this traveling and I must say, I know for a fact what it is like to camp and it is not always a time of relaxation. Now, if you two were alone you would make it relaxing, but then you would miss the help and the family. I used to take my son and the two of us would camp alone in a tent at a nearby state park and those times are so memorable and fun to think back of. You two will have so many beautiful memories of your family vacations and get-togethers. I always wish I were there with you.

When I was a kid my dad was military. One duty station was in Florida. For Christmas that year for extended family gifts my mom had been collecting shells and then sand and made ornaments. They were clear and she put the sand in the bottom then some shells then on top placed a verse of scripture (can’t think of it now) and the location and year. We still put it on our tree to this day (and that was back in 1997ish)!!! So glad y’all are enjoying your trip!!!

Sounds like a lot of work mixed with lot's of family adventures. I love both Florida coasts and New Orleans. My husband and I always traveled by car and stayed in hotels or motels. Breakfast and take away snacks are provided. Some have a late afternoon spread of simple foods like chili or hot dogs. I sure miss those trips and not inclined to go alone.

How much fun! I know the best laid plans can go wonky when we get so excited to see all the new things........it's fun but it can wear us down to a frazil. Looks like you are enjoying everything. I got bitten like that when we went south vacationing and had to stop at the drug store and get a spray that takes the itch away and cools and soothes your skin. Now I am never without it. The pharmacist could tell you a good one for your situation I am sure and yes, they itch like the dickens. Ouchie! Love this......enjoy your travels. God bless

I love picking up pretty shells. Im in Phoneix past 4 yrs but Im from SC and so many nice beaches. I worked shift work but my days off were spent at the beach. At craft stores you can buy lamps with clear glass bases. They are made to make shell lamps. It is a fun project.i sure hope you have a wonderful vacation.

Try white vinegar. Place on cotton wool and dab over the bites. It takes the itchiness away and even softens the redness of the bites. I would rather smell like vinegar than scratch all night!😁😆 By morning the vinegar smell has disappeared. To stop them biting smear Aloe Vera gel on your arms and legs. It does tend to be a bit sticky at first but it will eventually seep into the skin. They hate the smell and taste of Aloe Vera!🤩 Enjoy watching the fun times you folks are having. I noticed a couple of things, and I hope you see this as a compliment. Because Bonnie makes sure the children are expected to be children, and not little adults, you vacations are so much relaxing when you went on vacation previously when children, (I am not speaking of Bonnie) and the children were expected to be adults. Now, when you return from your mission, I see going on a special RV trip with the other four all along the East Coast, not relying on hotels, but the RV's.

A couple from our church were down there about the same time and I told them about The Butterfly nature conservatory. Its on Duval street and they have butterflies, birds and flamingos named Rhett and Scarlett, a few turtle's and a white fish named Casper and a gift shop that is wonderful. Sorry I didn't know you all were coming down to Florida keys or I would have told you ahead. The no- seamos are so bad and the farther you go south the worse they are.. sorry non of us like them nor the black love bug's that leave your car a mess. I saw a few yesterday of a wall and I've been praying for all the Love bug's to die off completely 🙏. Happy you all enjoyed your time here in Florida. Come back again soon 💗 Florida

Hi, I don't know if you are still in the keys or not but for the no see um bites we here in the south get a bottle and put rock salt and vinegar in it and leave it for 12 hours then if you put it on the bite it'll take the sting and itch out..hope this helps..be blessed

I can relate to the noseeums. We've vacationed on Sanibel and the Keys multiple times and they always manage to find me. The itch seems relentless- worse than our Midwest mosquitoes!

Jennifer, those are midges that are attacking you. They live in beach areas around sand, also known as sandflies. You can buy cream to help with the itching. We live by the beach and have them too but because we live in Australia I am not sure if you have the same products there. I have loved watching you enjoy the vacation with your grandchildren. Such special memories for all of you.

I was always so proud of my husband who I thought could do anything . Hello from Vermont, but we used to winter in Florida. Florida is very buggy, especially the No seeums, Mosquitoes that are the size of a bird, and the love bugs that are annoying. But have fun. Watch out for the huge spiders.

I love hearing all about your adventures in your R.V. . It takes me back. When my husband was alive. Jennifer I can relate I use to get bitten so bad from Arkansas State all the way down to Florida State . I’ve tried everything from dryer sheets on my arm to Avon skin so soft. But now 20 yrs on there is so much more. My husband told me it was my English lily white skin they like also they go for perfume so I was told. I can sympathize Jennifer. Good luck. 👍 💖

Jennifer, I live in AK, can I recommend a product that you can keep in your motor home it’s made by DoTerra. You get a spray bottle, put fractionated coconut oil in the bottle, than add 10 drops of citronella, and shake it up. I give a bottle to all my guest and make up a bottle for our kids the start of summer, everyone says this is the best bug and mosquito spray they have ever used. I will send you a bottle for your motor home. It’s safe and smells good, well smells better than bug spray. Love your weekly vlogs❤️. Safe travels home🙏🏻

I was born and raised along the Gulf Coast!!! Two tips.. One for you, One for Bonnie 1. SKIN SO SOFT!!! Avon skin so soft, they make it with sunscreen and bug guard now( its the best). Mom would had it to our bath water 2. If you have curly hair..when styling add a sea salt ( yes table salt) to a spray bottle... it protects the curls with the humidity!

Oh what fun!!! Speaking of getting all the bug bites, many years ago we tried to tent camp in the Florida Keys! Notice I said “tried”! LOL! As we cooked hot dogs on the park grill, mosquitoes literally landed on the dogs & covered them so that we could not eat them!!! We ate the buns that night!!! True story! 🤣

I just went to Sanibel for the first time on the first of March. It was so fun finding seashells!! The No-see-ums are the worst!! I was lucky because the didn’t love me and the ones I got went away fast, but other members of my family weren’t so lucky.

Our 5th wheel came with a gooseneck instead but it feels jerky. Some day we will make a trip like this. Want to go to the west direction too! Being in Ohio we have traveled to Tallahassee, Orlando, Virginia, and North/South Carolina by car never by RV. Taking daughter to Gatlinburg, TN but again by car and staying in a condo instead of our RV.

I know our no-see-um's are annoying, but you can't bet our weather. The bugs are the reason we wear bug spray. I am glad to hear you are enjoying Florida.

I live in Florida- two ways to keep No-See-Ums away- get yourself a spray bottle of Avon Skin-So-Soft (original)- keeps your skin soft and smells nice and bugs won't come near you, including sand fleas and mosquitos. Keep it in your purse wherever you go. Also, No-See-Ums HATE the cold- if you are in an air conditioned environment and are bothered my NSUMS, turn the thermostat down to 65-68. In a few minutes, the NSEUMS will disappear. Both these methods works with NO-SEE-UMS.
