It was an art to be a dj with skills. I'm a dj since I was 15 I'm 51 now and still rocking the 1's and 2's.. These days with Bluetooth any body can be a dj. Make a play list and let it play there ain't no scratching or blending music any more... Much love and respect to all the DJ's keeping it real...

Flash is like fine wine: He gets Better with age. He's embraced the evolving technologies and uses them as tools to continue building his arsenal of mad skills... therefore he will always be on top of his game no matter how he's doing things these days. All my respects to Flash and all the old-school DJs out there who Know how to Roll with da Flow. :D

This guy literally invented DJing as we know it.....he invented the slip mat.....he invented the cross fader.....and he invented the art of scratching.....And he is quick to commend people like Jazzy Jeff that do it better than he does....a living legend and class act.
@woodywoodrin85885 жыл бұрын
He definitely did not invent the crossfader, it already existed. Besides all of what you have mentioned, he also invented the cue system. Besides that I agree with you man!
@sarahabib84425 жыл бұрын
@@woodywoodrin8588 check out Hot97 Grandmaster Flash explaining the theory of DJing. He said that he took a double action single pull switch to allow him to extend the drum break. Who do you say invented it? If he's lying I want to know. Maybe I heard wrong I will watch it again myself. It's on KZbin. And thanks for being respectful. Too many people don't understand that you can have an exchange of differing opinions in a respectful way. CHEERS! I await your reply...from one hip hop head to another.

Dj St3rling even though there's mistakes here and there, this brings back so many memories. Real talk, I remember when Grandmaster Flash and the furious five, Charlie Chase, Grand Master Caz and others came to Cali when I was stationed at Fort Irwin back in the 80s. I really wanted to battle Flash back then, not as a disrespect, but as a pupil who came up under him, wanting to pay homage. Back then when we battled it wasn't about disrespect, at least not ask the time. I've krewed up with some of the katz I battled. Yea, those were the days. Flash is having fun, and he's getting some rightfully deserved cash, because back then they weren't paying like they are today, so I'm glad to see the PIONEERS getting a piece of the pie. Real talk.

I DJ'd in the 90's. I bought all my vinyl dirt cheap and the new stuff was reasonable to purchase. I was also in a record pool. I amassed roughly 20,000 records and have shelves covering a couple walls. A crate of records is no joke heavy and I would bring at least 4-5 every gig. Add in two 1200s in flight cases, your mixer and forget it. Some places had their own set up and I'd just bring needles. I miss those days and I'm retired from DJing.

Turntables have always intrigued me. I was a kid in the 80's and my family listened to rock music. I only saw people playing turntables on tv, and my dad would kill me if I tried to recreated that with his albums. Cut to adulthood, and I can play guitar and bass, keep a beat on drums, fumble my way around a keyboard, but never learned how to play turntables. Every time I see a DJ now a days, they have and ILM worth of computer equipment, and two faux-turntables. It's really interesting to see just how much goes into playing with a basic mixer and using two actual records at the same time. I kind of want to buy an old school set up like that and see what I can come up with.
