Horatio Caro and Marcus Kann did work together in analyzing 1. e4 c6 and published their analysis in a German chess magazine, in 1886. Ilya Kan was a Soviet Grandmaster for whom the Kan Variation of the Sicilian is named. So Kan and Kann are two different people. Whoa.

Normally people say “Oh my Lord” to express surprise. But since some consider using the Lord’s (Jesus) name in vain they use a different word instead of “Lord,” in this case “Land/s.” It’s like people saying “Gosh darnit” instead of “God damn it.”

Daniel-in your second game, what if White took the pawn on b6 after you play d5, closing off the diagonal for your bishop? Any discovery by the bishop will just lead to the queen retreating right? Or am I just missing something. Thanks again for this great content!

I got a few 'pin' related questions, about what happened at 0:40: -Why does he trade the pinned knight for the white bishop? Is it because he is going to put his pawns on white squares? -What is the advantage of playing h3, over just unpinning with your own bishop -If after h3, he would move the bishop to h5, would you follow up with f4, further chasing the bishop?
@anonymouspanda3646
@anonymouspanda3646 3 жыл бұрын
-you're right, he wanted to form a pawn pyramid by moving his pawn to e6, but that would have blocked his bishop him making it weak -it's a really subtle difference at first, I think it's because he wasn't sure if he wanted to fianchetto the bishop so he preferred to keep it undeveloped until he had a better idea. He also says it's theory so I guess you gotta trust him -it depends, the pawn structure is going to be really weak if you chase that bishop away, this is because the pawns are "over extended", so if you want to castle short you're most likely not going to push your pawns, if you're planning a king side attack I'd say pushing the pawns is perfectly fine I am not am expert btw, barely in the thousands so take my advice with a grain of salt

Happend to me, practice basic openings that you can easly memorize: queen's gambit, Kings Indian, italian game, French defense... Any of those would help just because most players on that range just move pieces and are prone to blunder on the first moves, you can use an Analisys Board (are available in the free version) and remember to practice both as white and black
@blackoutgenez
@blackoutgenez 3 жыл бұрын
dont you mean skill floor? since skill ceilin would mean the best player i.e. magnus or theoretically far stronger than the current strongest engines
@BigMamaJama
@BigMamaJama 3 жыл бұрын
@@blackoutgenez No. Chess’s skill floor is very low because you only have to learn the movements of 6 pieces and you can play. Hence why children learn. The skill ceiling is high because of all the advanced tactics. I could play chess all day everyday for a year and still not reach the level of Danya. Low floor. High ceiling.
@blackoutgenez
@blackoutgenez 3 жыл бұрын
@@BigMamaJama id disagree , skill floor doesnt mean just knowing how to move or learning controls its about learning how to get decent at something which is what op is having a hard time at. high floor high ceiling
@BigMamaJama
@BigMamaJama 3 жыл бұрын
@@blackoutgenez You do not understand the term. By definition, skill floor is the minimum level of ability to perform an action, in this case playing the game. In this case, the minimum is learning all the piece movements. “Learning how to get decent” contributes to skill ceiling. Even if you are decent, you are still a relatively low elo compared to Danya. Hence high skill ceiling.

This morning I had a spidey sense moment so I went to infiltrate with my queen. I don't think the sexy queen sacrifice at the end quite works to checkmate. White can sack their bishop and queen on f5 to defend against checkmate, and that allows the king some escape squares as the pawn on g4 becomes undefended. However, black is still winning, just not checkmate.
