A French IM named Joachim shared an anecdote about MVL. "I was playing blitz with another IM; I had two minutes left on the clock, and I sensed there was a checkmate, so I said it out loud to do a bit of trash talk. I thought for more than a minute and a half, but still couldn’t see it. I said, 'Damn it, you're going to escape my mate here.' At that moment, MVL, who was on the couch playing FIFA with another player, turned his head for literally one second-I swear, guys, one second-and said, 'Seriously, Jo, it’s a mate in 6.' I thought for another 30 seconds, convinced he was messing with me. We continued blitzing, and at the end of the night, I told MVL to stop joking about the mate in 6 because there wasn’t one. Okay, he’s a GM and top 2 in the world at the time, but I’m an International Master. If he saw a forced mate in 6 in one second, I would have seen it in two minutes. I told him to stop, and he said, 'Go on, set up the position; I'll show you.' But it was late, we’d played a lot of games, and I struggled to recreate the position. Finally, he goes, 'Alright, Jo, you ready?' I responded, 'Ready for what? Stop tormenting me.' Then he starts saying, 'Pawn to b5, pawn to c4, queen to e5...' He recalled the exact position of every piece, guys, even though he’d seen the board for only one second. I couldn’t believe it! I love this, MVL is know for his absolute insane calculation but obviously Magnus Hikaru and Anand can do things like that, they are in another worlds lol

The gap is there but with greats like Vishy (maybe not Hikaru since he was struggling to guess his own game a bit), it is not that much. Also, remember Vishy is 54 years old. We don't know what his recall capacity was in Magnus's age (not saying it would be Magnus's current level but it is reasonable to assume it might have been better than his current which is already good) and what Magnus's recall capacity or memory would be at 54.
