Nah. In D&D(which is the tabletop game this is based after), you always send someone to charm the owners. Stealing usually ends with way too much trouble and you get hunted by the city guard which will hinder you to finish the mission and getting any kind of pardon you could have gotten from beating the monster. It is a game of consequences, which you will find out soon in the series

This series is brought to you by Critical Role, a show where a bunch of nerdy-ass voice actors from LA sit around and play D&D on Twitch. It is basically an adaptation of their first campaign they played live on stream back in 2015-2017. The point of the game is more or less collaborative storytelling, where the players play off of each other's strengths, quirks and punchlines. As such, there is no single "main character"; the story is focused on an adventuring party.

"That dragon seemed intelligent." Me: "Oh, you definitely don't know D&D." The reason for my instant reaction being that is that, well, dragons are absolutely terrifying massive monsters of intellect, physical power, elemental fury, and magical aptitude all at the same time. Depending on the type of dragon and its preferred style it might be a solo act, lead a cult, run a mafia, rule a tribe or kingdom, command an army, or more.

In D&D, the rangers have this concept of "favored enemy", which can be of the following types: aberrations, beasts, celestials, constructs, dragons, elementals, fey, fiends, giants, monstrosities, oozes, plants, or undead. That gives certain bonuses if they want to study, track, hunt, and even talk to a certain type of enemy. In the animation, that translates to Vex having this "spider sense" when a dragon is nearby. Her brother Vax is a rogue, not a ranger, and therefore does not have that ability.

It's interesting seeing people reacting to the series without knowing who Critical Role is. kinda refreshing. But to clear up. The Legend of Vox Machina tells the story of Critical Role's first campaign. The first 2 episodes are the Story before their life show started. after that it retells the story they played in their lifeshow. The first season is the Briarwood Arc, the first major plot/story they had in campaign 1
@boastaboutgames27472 жыл бұрын
They honestly don't seem to know anything about DnD in general which is what makes this oddly charming. The ability Vex gets to sense dragons is just an ability from her class. But these guys are theorizing why she has this power and where it leads but in truth its just a class skill. No lore behind it whatsoever. It s what makes it kinda funny watching XD.

Second bit is actually a ref to a different reaction they did, Arifureta .... Uuhhh, let's just say _they found out the dragon was a masochist in the worst way possible_ and leave it at that. From *WAR* to weird in 5 seconds. Since you're probably here from the algorithm, d&d flopped in Japan way back, instead they favoured TORG (now rereleased as TORG: Eternity) which has a lot more sci-fi/schizotech involved, influenced Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy, and all the works _those_ spawned, so most fantasy anime might have vaguely familiar elements, but then there's also weird junk like ancient spaceships, mecha, or riding around in modern day vehicles instead of horses (main guy in Ari _has a freaking Hummer_ complete with 20mm cannon) The only ones I've heard directly cite d&d for inspiration are Lodoss Wars (like this, based on an actual campaign), Arislan, Goblin Slayer (complete with "gods" rolling dice on how to screw the protags), Dungeon Meshi, Berserk (+ heavy metal), Shield Hero (unusual combination of both. Trad&d setting + more "gamey" jrpg mechanics) and Twelve Kingdoms. (d&d in mythical China) Generally speaking "d&d aligned manga" will have more "realistic" or western-y armor & clothing design, while TORG descendants have "skimpy" designs for everyone, cover 99% of isekai, and have rapid fire "machine gun magic" Mushoku Tenshi does not cite either one, but in practice leans more towards d&d as magic requires casting time + mana, and melee techniques are tied to "levels" of a sort. Also a very annoying constantly interfering god

Critical Role is a streaming D&D live-play game with professional voice actors. They are the number #1 stream on Twitch (all categories), and their Kickstarter to do an animated special set records for Film and Art Kickstarters (they asked for $750k, they got $11.3 Million and got picked up by Amazon for a second season). The world is custom made by the DM Matt Mercer (who does the narration, the voice/face of a lot of extras/NPCs, and Silas Briarwood (the vampire). The cast is a whose who of talent from anime, video games and cartoons - just google it, but you recognize everyone. This first two episodes were a story from their home D&D game, before they started streaming, but from here on out we get a single arc that slows down the pace a bit and gets a bit more serious. Really looking forward to it!

Another thing people should know is that Critical Role got so popular that it kinda-sorta singlehandedly elevated D&D. It's more popular now that it's *ever* been because people now realize that D&D is really just a fun way to do improv. It's a way to create something and have fun with your friends. Wizards of the Coast (who owns D&D now) have actually canonized A LOT of what Matt Mercer created for the Critical Role campaigns, so it's no longer non-official for the most part. If Matt makes it for CR then there's a good chance that it's going to be considered official by Wizards of the Coast.

Some Dragon info. Nothing spoilery, just general DnD knowledge. Dragons come in 2 basic flavors. Chromatic, and Metallic. Metallic dragons are generally good, Chromatic dragons are varying kinds of evil. Brimscythe was a Blue dragon, and their scales are blue of course and they breath lightning as their breath weapon. All true dragons get more powerful as they age. Metallic dragons that are old enough generally always can shapeshift, Chromatic dragons generally can't because they have no reason to, but they can learn it if they have a specific reason and are old enough. So Brimscythe can be considered an unusual blue dragon. Fun fact, voiced by DAVID FREAKING TENNANT OH MY DOCTOR! The other dragon colors are Red for fire, green for poison, black for acid, and white for frost.

I Love this series. Some series and legends have Dragons that can transform into humans or temporarily take human form. Tio from Arifuerta was a Dragonborn a human who is the descendant or child of a dragon and a human. Milium from That Time I Reincarnated as a Slime was a Dragonborn too. But she never turned into one. That being said, Rimuru was able to make a body for Veldora to possess. And having been inside of him, Veldora likely learned how to shapeshift thanks to Rimuru eating Ifrit the Fire Spirit. But then in the other episodes the red haired dude seemed to have a blue haired girlfriend or something that said that Veldora was her brother so I guess she learned how to do it on her own, maybe? Anyway there was also an Old anime called Slayers, in like the 3rd or 4th season they became friends with a girl who was a Golden Dragon and her people were in danger from a Demon Dragon trying to destroy the world. So she took human form and joined the main group of heroes to save it, as an add on character.

Love your reactions. Welcome to D&D and the world of Critical Role. Critical Role is a D&D roleplaying juggernaut and this cartoon is the animated version of what happened in their first campaign. The end battle is literally one round of combat in D&D. Each player getting one movement and action. There is a bit of tweaking to make it work in the animated form. Everyone misses this on the first viewing. Before we see Krieg and meet Brymscythe we can see Pike, Grog and Vax in the background shoving gold into the Bag of Holding(a magical bag that is a small pocket dimension and can hold ALOT of stuff, alot more than the size of the bag would make possible) Vax even shoves in a big vase. Its also really funny to see people wathcintg this when they havent seen the original critical role episodes and have no clue about wtf is going on XD And believe me, you wont be able to predict the story at all. Matt Mercer ( the dungeon master) is a master of plot and unsuspected twists

Yeah you don't have that much control over what the subtitles visually look like on prime. You get what you get, sadly. With KZbin subtitles there is a bit more customization. But not for Prime.

wait hes the same dragon? wasnt he in human form when the dragon was attacking which means that there atleast 2 dragons if not more working together
@davidillarretasolans69702 жыл бұрын
There passed a few hours before the dragon returned. The general could have perfectley snuck out of the camp with any pretext (you are not going to question the military leader), and after he attacked the camp, shifted back into his human form and joined the survivors, which aren't going to suspect him. If you are referring to the first episode, we saw them flying in a giant skyship and reaching the location in a matter of hours. It's not that unlikely that the dragon could have flown over the area, attacked them, then returned back to the capital.

In the first scene in EP 1, there would have obviously been a time skip between the opening scene and the council scene Here in EP 2, General Krieg was mysteriously and obviously not there when the blue dragon attacked the army

Polymorph only takes 6 seconds. He walked off screen, the dragon entered the screen.
@davidillarretasolans69702 жыл бұрын
@@Michael-bn1oi It's not really polymorph (since polymorph only allows you to turn into *beasts*) It's the shapechange trait.While that one is mostly localized to metallic dragons, some DM's give it to chromatic dragons for fun twists. (In fact, it's revealed in Storm King's Thunder that there's a dragon that does and abuses the hell out of it for their own benefit, so it's not like WotC negates this type of thing happening)
@Michael-bn1oi2 жыл бұрын
@@davidillarretasolans6970 Remember that they did not start with D&D rules, they converted everything to 5e form pathfinder. 5e monster manual wont do you much good for that and like any good DM Matt uses the books as a guideline not a rule. In Pathfinder Adult dragons can polymorph self 3/day!

i feel like the guy named vox is the leader and the green elf druid is the love interest i see a lot of ships trying to be made like the healer dwarf and the gigant or the same healer and the other honry dwarf and the gunner and the female twin they need another girl so a guy doesnt get left out
@MrBlorp-sf9ye2 жыл бұрын
Some corrections for some misconceptions He isn't actually named Vox, it's Vax, short for Vax'Ildan (his sister being Vex/Vex'Ahlia There aren't actually any dwarves in the team, they're gnomes Pike's (gnome cleric) relationship with Grog (goliath/half-giant) is more of the best of friends variety

No one is named Vox, but I get why you would think that. It's Vax, and he for sure isn't the leader. They don't really have one since they are all player characters. Also they are gnomes, no dwarfs in the party.
@jled7872 жыл бұрын
Its an in-joke for the group as Scanlan's VA sometimes get the two names mixed up in their early adventures that later on he jokingly threatened to make a character named Vix to add to the confusion. The idea was then revisited in their 2nd campaign where Sam Regeil named his Goblin Rogue 'Nox' .

the problem i have with this is that theres a bunch of characters that are all in this group they all seem like MC material but no one is taking the lead also for us to care about these guys they need to be beat and slapped around more thats basic hero building 101 i dont know diddly about them i dont care if they die or not i do like the druid elf but shes so flat ... its hard for me to care

You can only be beaten to near death, and suddenly be all better, so many times before it looses impact. This is only episode 2 and there's been 2 dragon encounters and a bar-room brawl. There's only so much fighting you can put in a 23 minute episode while leaving room for the actual story.

this isnt a bad animated show, i do think it feels like it tries too hard to be edgy like i said the last episode it feels like a bunch of youtubers wrote a story and amazon paid them to make a cartoon ala invincible style clearly some one tossed alot of monet to the animation team, but the group doesnt have a leader and feels like everyone is trying to be the MC which doesnt work

Plus the Obvious the bad guy isnt who you think it is but i knew all along the bad guy was going to end up being the only white male in the kings counsel.

Being mad at the obvious fake bad guy and then being confused that 2 "Vampires" are weaker than a dragon to defeat is kind of odd. I would try to look at it like Arrogant dragon is weaker than two "Vampire" leaders of a large city.

Vampires in d&d are pretty crazy. They can only be truly killed in specific conditions, if you don't do it correctly they just revive and come back later.

It always depends on the dragon and the vampire. DM's adjust the monster manual all the time. Also you assumed wrong about the "two vampires".
