An excerpt of a peal of Grandsire Caters rung at All Hallows, Twickenham for Easter on Monday, 1st April 2024.
All Hallows Church in Twickenham has a set of ten bells with the tenor weighing 18cwt. They were made by different founders from Whitechapel, including Whitechapel Bell Foundry, Richard Phelps, Thomas Lester, and Mears and Stainbank. Together, they sound great, with the biggest bell giving the ring its powerful sound.
These bells have an interesting history. They used to be in St. Dionis Backchurch but were moved to All Hallows, Lombard Street. Unfortunately, the church became unsafe, so they were taken down. The tower was rebuilt in Twickenham, where it stands now. In 1951, most of the bells were retuned, and some were recast. Then, in 1988, two new bells were added, and the old ones went to St. John the Baptist in Windsor.
Ringing these bells is fun, but sometimes they drop unexpectedly because the tower moves a lot. Overall, they sound good, especially the tenor. However, the smaller ones aren't loud enough compared to the big ones, which is a bit disappointing.
Tenor 18-2-23 in E
