WE DID IT!!! ...we didn’t. This is the song that kicks off the second half of the album, X’s perspective on the world. It was where I indulged in the terrifying question that what if all this work we’ve put into shaping a better world is for nothing? What if the will of the people can’t bend the sheer force of the few? It didn’t feel right to make an album about hope, or optimism, and address the darker, cynical impulses we battle with when we are tired, burnt out, apathetic, ready to give up. It’s the perspective nobody wants to admit they struggle with in spaces of activism or community building. But it’s worth taking on that fight regardless... Death Of An Optimist. December 4th. ✖️✖️

idk personally i thought it was like a 4... It just sounds overproduced and super messy (not in a good way). It has a good message to it so a big plus for that, but sonically it's super overwhelming and the genre mixing is just out of place and not that good imo. I also just didn't like his rapping or his voice in general. Of course this is just my opinion, if you enjoyed DOAO, good for you.

Money always is preferred over originality whenever it comes to big business, better for them to pump out horrible songs once a week then to release amazing songs every couple of months. ((Never mind, I've read down on the posts and it seems the consensus is that the genre is now officially called "Yes" Which I really can find no good arguments against)) I've had people ask me this same question. I find it has many influences from rap, to metal, to techno/industrial...and...things I can't even identify. I think this is a Nirvana moment. No one's ever heard this kind of stuff before (okay I've heard some that isn't Grandson, but...) Like "Alternative" is pretty vague, but I think the 20's is something like the 90's. We have had a very long time of no real innovation in music, and I think we have a new genre. I have no idea what to call it. I'm willing to wait. I mean...who'd have thought the Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots would be called "Alternative" before they were? It was like everyone threw up their hands and realized it was what you listened to when you didn't want to hear anything else. So it became "Alternative" how about Industrial Punk? Too long? Is "Meltyface" too on the nose? Is there a better way to say "In Your Face?" IYF sounds...far too vague But then again, so did "Alternative" I just don't know. I hope we get to find out. It's definitely got a very original punk feel (even if it's, on average 10 times longer than classic punk) Is AltMetalPunkRapFaceMelt too awkward? Hah...maybe it'll be something we don't want to admit to anyone else we listen to..."PunkMetalRapStew" BTW.... OMG when he drops bars!

I'm 27, struggling to make rent in one room in a 4-person apartment in Baltimore (I was born NYC) and there are days I have $1.80 in my bank account with a week before payday and "Rock Bottom" is a song that is never far from my mind.
@josephrittenhouse58393 жыл бұрын
@@schaefer_hund I'm 50 and often in the same boat. I wouldn't take it as so much of a bad thing, even if it is stressful. I've had opportunities to expand my "financial independence" and be more "Fiscally Responsible". Even when I was all in and committed, eventually I found some ethical and moral reason why it was likely bullshit. In nearly every case I've been proven right. Life is an existential fight, from start to finish. If you see someone having it easier than someone else, take stock and look at how many backs his leisure has been made upon. Certainly it could be that our lives don't have to be THIS much of an existential crisis. For example...if a burger flipper at a fast food restaurant doesn't deserve enough money to raise a family on for a reasonable amount of work... ...then burger flippers at fast food restaurants don't need to be available occupations. ...but then...where will you get your hot fast lunch or easy night of not cooking? For that matter, how is it these joints keep opening new restaurants, and yet can't afford to pay living wages? Is it really a job "really designed for High School students to learn how to work"? if so...why is Burger King open when school is in session? Did someone say "Hey...we need to teach adolescents how to navigate the world of work" and then design an entire industry around that? Or did someone see profit to be made, and designed the industry around that? In what way is unending growth ever shown itself to be endlessly sustainable? When do we call bullshit? maybe when you have $1.80 in the bank, and you are a week away from Payday...and the only solace you have, the only signal you can find that you aren't insane...is hearing "We Did It". Oh, by the way, you might find more solace still checking out "Some More News" He's the "Some...more Newsy news" version of Grandson in a "Neewsssy!" format. His video editing is far below Grandson, and his musical talent is nill...but his research and vitriol and presentation are..."Well...newsy"

Reminds me of Plato's "Republic". Mostly the bits that were attributed to Socrates. Reality is all moments have you and you never have the moment. Your engagement with evil is what allows evil to thrive. It feeds off of your fights against it. That anger, that hubris, it clouds your mind and dulls your senses. You fuel the fires and worse, are the catalyst that sets them ablaze even when they're out.
