Grandstream GWN7000 Router First Look

Let's look at the Grandstream GWN7000. Grandstream is known for their IP phones and phone systems and are getting into IP networking. Thanks to Grandstream for sending me this unit to add to the lab! We only had one little hiccup and then we were off to the races!

This is actually great looks like it will support GAPS provisioning, meaning you will be able to purchase the device from Grandstream, ship to client and when they plug it in it will auto upgrage and auto configure like you can do with the phones.

Bought one for a small business, Wish me luck. Port forwarding is setup but doesn’t seem to work yet, To the Manual! Guess I have to configure firewall rules too?

Great Vid. My only complaint is this has given me more choices to make with my up coming internal network upgrade. Would love to see some more vids with this and access points. How does this router play with Unifi AP's or should I go with the GS 7610 AP's? Information is a bit limited on these.

Hi Willie you mentioned you were using the Grandstream for small VOIP installs. Could you maybe follow-up with a video on the QOS settings you recommend for VOIP.

Great review. My only gripe is that it doesn't support MTU sizing on the PPPoE interface. My provider requires a manual MTU size of 1480 but it doesn't support this. Had to go back to the edgerouter until it does. Grandstream would not commit to a timeframe on when this will be added.

oh man oh man.. this is so exciting! please do speedtest on openvpn as server and client too!! wanna know if it supports both udp and tcp. supports what encryptions, and whether it uses username/pass or certs only. if it supports hardware acceleration imma faint. LOL

good day!! I am looking for a load balance that when carrying out the balancing has 150mb at this moment I have a wan1 internet provider of 150mb and wan2 of 50mb I need to swing but that's me 150mb the balance that you have would give 150mb?

Hi! I have a question about the router.. Can I setup a VPN Server where I can connect from my cellphone as a client from anywhere? Is that possible? Wich of the protocols is needed to make it operative?

Ubuiti has an LTE link module, so I suppose it's possible to designate one as a failover if you are not receiving a heartbeat indicator from one of the two links. Bonding them is unlikely.

I tried these based on a recommendation from a local VOIP provider and I am finding that you get what you pay for. In a dual WAN scenario it fails over to the second WAN but won't fail back. You have to stop any traffic from the devices connected for normal (WAN1) traffic to resume. I have a case opened with GrandStream for this and will post updates as I get them. One other issue is static IPs (what we call reservations in the DHCP world) once you assign a static IP, it is forever, there is no way to remove a MAC to IP assignment once it has been made. My VOIP provider setup static IPs for management of his switches then had to replace them due to a lightning strike, the IP he wanted to use is bound to the old dead switch permanently, there is a case opened with GrandStream for this as well.

I am guessing that would significantly reduce PPS throughput! It only does 1 Million PPS, which is less than 1Gbps, adding in PPS would drop that significantly unless they have a custom chip to take care of that,

Hi will the GWN7000 join two 4G routers together and land up with faster speed overall another words I have two 4G SIM card routers And I want to connect into this box and Bond the two networks together and land up with one fast network can I use this box to do this

This does not look to have the level of sophistication that ubiquiti net's networking stuff has although its similar.
