I just love your granny. Her first answer about wishing she had been a better person hit home for me. I was just thinking about this a couple days ago. I’ve never had a homemade quilt. My grandmother made one for all of her grandchildren except me. She didn’t like me at all. God bless you all.

“Homemade quilts just feel better than store bought ones.” Omgoodness Tipper, I just adore your mama. I started quilting years ago because quilts were such a comfort to me as a child. I wanted to carry on the heritage from my granny and my husband’s mamaw.

I'm with granny. I love homegrown, home cooked green beans. No matter how you try to doctor the ones in a can, they just don't cut it. We had a farm, a huge garden, chickens, a milk cow, a beef cow, pigs, and plow horses. I hated digging and picking up taters and picking, stringing and canning green beans the week of 4th of July. That's when the beans come in and everybody was off work to help. When I was little I said when I get big I'm not canning no green beans on the 4th of July. Now a days, I'd give anything for a jar of home canned green beans during the winter. We lived mostly off beans and taters and cat head biscuits or cornbread. We actually had plenty to eat. I just didn't have many clothes. A few hand-me-downs if I was lucky. My mama couldn't sew. Despite being materially poor, those were the good old days.

My little mamaw quilted and crocheted. I still have a few of her quilts. They are so special to me. Having these stories to remember are some of the best gifts you can ever have. I don’t think you realize how precious these moments with your loved ones are until they have all went to see their Heavenly Father. So precious to listen to Granny and get to listen to her stories.

My mother told me once when i was 15. That if you live, you will have regrets. If you don't, you won't. I didn't understand until i grew up. I have regrets but i don't regret living my life. Granny people who think they wished they'd have been a better person are probably the kindest most giving people I've ever met. You are one of those. You go girl.

In my 10 year military career I have been a lot of places and have seen a lot of things. Following the footsteps of my family through North Carolina to Kentucky to Ohio I am always reminded how the people from the mountains always loved their families and their communities. Be the best you can be and be like your mama. I didn’t grow up with that love and family but my wife did and I understand that. My mother in law always said I was her favorite. I told her she had to quit saying that somebody was going to hear her. I miss my mother in law

Tipper, maybe that would be a great project for you, granny and the girls to make some candles. It would be a great experience and it would make a fantastic episode. Candle making is much easier than it was back on the old days because you can buy blocks of beeswax and wicks. I would love it.

Hi Tipper, I love hearing Granny talk about her childhood. It's history coming alive. My daddy was the baby of 10 and mama was the 3rd child of 8. I love big families. I was surprised that she wanted to learn to make candles. Take her to a craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby, they sell candle making supplies. I know they will be beautiful. Give Granny a hug for me and I'm sending hugs to you.

I agree with Danny, there is no moment in our lives that we are closer to God than when we look into the eyes of a newborn baby and know that this life came to us from the Grace of God. And I agree with you Tipper, no store bought quilt could compare to the feeling of a quilt that was handmade with love. Just like our home cooked meals, they ALWAYS taste better when we are making it with love in our hearts. And that feeling of knowing you grew that food by choosing to do the many hard hours of work, is such an added blessing of deliciousness. Thank you for these wonderful videos.
