Try freezing your fruits before you brew with it. You'll get more juice out of them.

With berries I generally do. But, I had not considered it with other fruit.

Used this recipe, and it turned out incredible. I didn’t cut the Granny Smiths into chunks though. I used a apple peeler and corer that spiral cuts the apple, and I added the peel strings to the bag. Apples broke down really well when sliced thin.

Good honest review. Try what you suggested and put the apples in a blender or food processor. Give the yeast more contact with the surface of the fruit and extract the juice.

I like these tasting videos because it gives me the chance to recommend changes to the original recipe for a better product.

Any method that will extract the juice is fine. Tnis channel will generally assume that the viewer won't have anything more than a knife at their disposal.

I made a Granny Smith wine a few years ago and I like the dry wine taste. However, the family was expecting it to be sweet. I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes GS wine 🍷 Great video!

I appreciate your kinda wine channel, keep up the great content ! I realize this would add a whole lot of complication to it, but I was told to use a pressure cooker for the apples.

Those Granny Smith apples do remain firm, pressure cooker, food processor, box grater would also work.

At bottling add a small packet of sugar if you want a little fizz or bubble when it’s time to taste
@DIYFermentation

Thank you for the suggestion. This method does not work if you have employed a step back sweetening method (my preferred method), or if you are using sulfites at bottling. By adding sugar to the bottle, you are trying to restart fermentation. This leads into problems with increased wine cloudiness, and sediment at the bottom of the bottle.

You can make a diy fruit press with a large metal pot. (Go cheap. Like 6.99 cheap. All that matters is that it’s tall.) a piece of wood that is slightly smaller than its diameter (emphasis on untreated wood as treated wood has heavy metals such as chromium, etc.) basically cut out into a circle. The actual press you can use a scissors car jack the sort that comes with your car. Cut a single hole down at the pot’s bottom at your preference. Put the fruit in a large mesh bag. Throw it in the pot. Put the circle of untreated wood down on top of the bag. Wench the jack to press down upon the bag. It needs something to press up against as well. You can use the underside of a weighed down table. You just need enough space to collect the juice.

Hey, have you ever thought of maybe making concentrate juice out of the fruit you use in that specific wine, right before bottling. It seems to help fruit wine out alot, and if you make the juice concentrate yourself you don't have to worry about preservatives and other things being in it. You could also just lower the alcohol level in the wine to have the fruit be more pronounced. Just spitballing ideas haha.

So if he’s going to use concentrate he should be aware that there may already be sulfates inside the concentrate. It may make it harder to pitch the yeast.

I wonder if bringing the avb up then at bottling adding a can of frozen can of white apple juice, would bring out the flavors a little better. I think I might try that, and I have about 15 pounds of GS apples on hand. I'm definitely going to use your recipe for the blueberry wine. Thanks for sharing Charles.

It might work. I would have used a better way to extract more juice form the apples than I did in the video.
