This is an AMAZING hatchet from GB. The shape and design are excellent, and it looks beautiful! The blade is stupid sharp, and the steel very high quality. This hatchet won't let you down. Take it camping, hunting, backpacking, and whenever you venture into the trees. It would make an excellent bushcraft tool, and with proper care, will spend generations in your family. It's something that will never lose it's value.

Pinch the top of the sheath when inserting, this prevents the blade from cutting the leather. Beautiful, perfect parallel to the blade end grain in that hickory handle. Ideal!

So? Did you pay to see the video? No? Then shut up. Don’t buy their product if you don’t want it. By all means, though, continue to consume content at no cost to you, and then chastise people for trying to make a dollar.

I have had mine for years. If you sqeeze the top of the sheath you do not cut the Sheath. The idea with the steel rivets is that if you fall the axe does not cut through and cut you. Copper would be better. Use plenty of leather balm andseal it with dubbing or mink oil, then wax! Lasts for years!

Just received my wildlife hatchet today thanks to your awesome reviews. Too little quality and craftsmanship goes into products today. Cant wait to use it! Do you think you can make a holster that would secure the axe to a pack or molle webbing? I could use, and would buy that.

Bought one of those a couple of weeks ago for carving spoons,bowls etc, came razor sharp with a beautiful heartwood helve,no metal wedge in them now and the fitting of the head to helve leaves a lot to be desired although it's a tight fit in that it doesn't move there's gaps everywhere great tool for light carving and light camp chores though!

Ya, I've noticed that the newer ones don't have the metal wedge. And if they have gaps that's not good,... especially on a high end product like this. At $ 180+ they should be close to perfect.

My wildlife just showed up. Very nice lower part of edge sharper than upper edge. Hickory needs a little work but I can easily take care of that. Not quite as sharpe as I’d like but can’t wait to take it out with me this weekend. Give it a bit of a workout.

I was initially going to buy a plastic handled Fiskars/Gerber hatchet, then I came across an article about Gransfors Bruks and read it. It opened me up to learning more about these tools and I bought a GB Mini Hatchet. This miniature masterpiece is a work of the Smith's art, specifically the designer, whose initials, LP, are stamped into the head. Some years later, a GB Wildlife Hatchet joined my Mini, and around five years on, a GB Small Forest Axe made it a trio. They are a pleasure to own, and once in the hand are an extension of you. A GB hatchet or axe, together with a Silky Fox Bigboy Outback Saw (or a Silky Gomboy Outback Saw) and a Mora Companion Heavy Duty knife and a Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel make an extremely capable set with which virtually anything can be achieved. Having quality tools makes life better, especially when you're relying on your tools to provide shelter. I think the GB Wildlife Hatchet is the best compromise between size, weight and capability, although I absolutely love the Mini, which is perfect for carrying and is astonishingly capable.

Say Heah, Yup I love my Gransfors Bruks S.F.A. usually I take it out when we're processing alot of firewood usually in the fall for hot cup of coffee on the open fire and a baked potato and some around the fire chats, this weekend I'm testing my two new knives my Rodent 3 and my Rodent 5 I just got a couple of days ago, I also brought my vintage Blind Horse Bushcrafter which I had the handle thinned down and polished, a simple looking knife, but what a preformer, also so far the Rodent 5 is making me feel great that I bought it, there's no redundancy with my Ratmandu, but that little tank of a knife the Rodent 3 fills my hand great and I wear large gloves this small knife seems to be easily my favorite 3" knife, I also brought my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet and my Wicked Tough Saw on this trip and also great preformers, Thanx for a great video, Yeah I love my G.B.

Where can we find your sheath in Europe? Also, do you make sheaths for other axes? For instance, I have a very nice Hultafors hatchet, but their sheaths are.. well... ridiculous. They are small (only covering the edge portion of the blade!), they don't stay on, etc., etc.
@knivesandstuff

Love the sheath. i know this is an old video, but i do like the orginal sheath covering the entire top of the axe. Also.. as the axes are hand forged and ground by different makers, is there enough tolerance in your sheath that it will fit the variances that occur in hand making axes?

Riveting the sheath is better than sewing because if the axe cuts through the stiches it will cut whatever else is behind it. If you had it in a pack and it was being jumbled around, the stitches could be easily cut and the pack or its contents damaged. Also if you drop it on you or someone else there is no risk of cutting through with rivets.

+ReviewOutdoorGear Your design will make the top rivet hit the blade anyway though?
@ReviewOutdoorGear
@ReviewOutdoorGear 8 жыл бұрын
Karl Olofsson it may come close, but should not touch. The rivet is actually much narrower through the leather than what you see on the outside - its more like a pin. It would also depend on the way you would strike the axe.

Easy way to tell if a guy has just taken delivery of a new Gränsfors Bruks axe? Look at his forearms - if there's a small patch recently shaved of hair - he did. Ask me how I know. . . . 😊

+ReviewOutdoorGear "100 years" Not possible - not even close with that head (forget handle as can be replaced). That head is flimsy, with daily use and sharpening every 2 or 3 days I would be surprised to see it last close to 10 years. BTW This looks more like a paid review, or you're just happy with a freebie. I dont kind of blame you bcoz every reviver is the same. Its impossible to get a decent/impartial review now days on anything - Unless the channel buys everything and refuses to get free samples.

It is not possible to have the blade edge touching the rivets, due to the additional leather pad that is put there to protect the edge. I don´t like you advertising your own product here on false premises, without even mentioning that it is your own one that you are recommending. Shame! The original cover works just fine.
