I would travel from Belgium to Minneapolis to hear Grant sing this song in this shitty place

Breaks my heart . A guy like that playin to a bunch of disinterested twats who have no idea what a hugely significant, enormously influential song writer the guy with guitar is . RIP Grant Hart .

can't believe he's playing in that shitty place with nobody caring about him

That's more of a reflection of the state of the recording industry than anything else.

Who said nobody cared about him? Did you her people applaud at the end? I was there and people loved it. Do not count your success by the number of people in the audience.

Mary Jane Mansfield Are you the same Jane Mansfield who played bass in Yanomamos? Just gotta say, I love the new LP and the original 12" on New Alliance records is a big favourite of mine. Thanks for the kickass music!

fuck, there are many people in this world who would have given away a lung to be able to sit there, listening to Grant, and these fools here are fucking talking...some of them are even giving their back to this man! Amazing video. Yeah, painful to watch, but there's something beautifully sad in this scene: the songwriter fallen from grace, his city has almost forgotten him but he's still screaming his heart out for one of the greatest tunes of his legendary band. Gems have no value for those who don't have eyes.

Thank you for your appreciation and observations. To add a little perspective, I just wanted to say that this event, West Bank Revival (at multiple venues in the area), was not all that publicized and I think, in retrospect, that Grant intended to play this show for reasons particular to what the West Bank in Minnneapolis music history represents - especially this cafe which once upon a time was one of the epicenters of "the scene," e.g. the New Riverside Cafe - and for personal reasons of his own this is why he wanted to capture this moment in real time - which I could do for him - although the edited video as seen here was not something we had discussed.

@@mndr1983 The complete disinterest of the crowd makes the performance all the more poignant. When I was 15 I was convinced Grant Hart was writing songs specifically for me. Now middle age me is watching middle age Grant playing those same songs and nothing has changed.

Thank you. FYI, the footage was cut to reflect the real-time aspect of what was happening as Grant performed. He told me before the show that he wanted me to walk around and get stuff outside and this was well-suited to my gear because I had a wireless mic inside the venue transmitting to my camera. This made it easy to sync with the audio track of the inside camera and the mix of the two comprises the soundtrack for the video.

I get what Gilpow is saying. Grant Hart is singing a song by one of the greatest, most vital rock acts ever. The songwriting (w/all Husker Du) is something nobody, nobody else does as well. Bob had a nicer change to his voice, but this is Grant, on some street corner "applebee's' place - that's all. I thought the same.
