Love your content, Grant. Here's how I became a fan of Phil. For my 50th birthday in 2001, my wife gave me a trip to a pro golf tournament of my choice (among the Texas tournaments). I chose the Colonial in Fort Worth. It just had so much history, I couldn't imagine a better one. I chose my brother-in-law, Kevin to go along with me. We're watching the practice round on Wednesday, going from one group to another until we got alongside Phil and Tom Lehman. On one of the shorter par 4's Phil's drive leaves him about 50 yards short of the green. He hits a low shot that hits the front of the green, takes one long skip and checks up right next to the pin. Kevin goes "Wow, how did he do that?". I jokingly said "Why don't you ask him?" Well Kevin just takes off and jogs right up to Phil in the middle of the fairway and asks him "What club did you hit that with?" Phil says "an L wedge". Kevin says "How did you get it to stop right next to the pin?". So Phil takes the club and explains to Kevin how to hit that shot to get the trajectory and spin that he wanted. I'm over in the rough just flabbergasted that Kevin was able to jog right up to Phil, and not only did Phil not tell him to get the hell away from him, he politely answered his question and showed him how to hit the shot. We followed Phil and Tom the rest of the practice round and actually had a little bit of a conversation back and forth. As we left them coming down #18 we asked them what their tee times were for Thursday. They told us and we said well we have a round of our own on Thursday morning and they said "Have a good round". Both of them were very cool guys.

I've never seen a blend of competitiveness and gamesmanship combined with admiration for each other combined with a pupil-teacher vibe (of Grant for Phil). This could never happen in a tournament.
