There's a martial arts competition show called Ultimate Self Defense Championship. There's 2 seasons and they in the process of finding 2 more competitors. I think maybe you should be in the 3rd season.

That series has been engaging and eye opening. I think there's a lot to explore there within the dimensions of Self-defense, application of physical skills, emotional regulation, adaptability, and personal mindset.

Good analysis of Bruce Lee my friend, most don't seem to grasp the self expression aspect of his philosophy. Those overreaching punches are a result of throwing a punch from the shoulder instead of shooting it out from the hip where the center of balance is. If you watch Bruce his punch structure/energy flow goes from the hip/core(our control center) to the ground(to obtain power/legs are our foundation they feed power to the core) back to the hip (the power is flowing through the body now) then directly to the fist through the elbow as it shoots from the hip. Arms are loose and flow like hinges until just before impact then you structure up your torso, shoulder, and arm so that the elbow through the fist is braced, but the energy should take a direct route from the hip to the elbow to the fist and into the target. Not tapping the surface and not pushing through the target, but in-between so the energy goes inside the target. That is how we are so fast and powerful, I just recently did a Video comparing the philosophies of Bruce Lee an J.R.R. Tolkien and it is essentially a rant on adaptability, presence of mind, and letting go aka the art of dying. I have a lot of experience with what is known sometimes as flow state or fighting without thinking, I know the video is rough but there is valuable information within. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYG4npl6i7-Brdksi=A29o8WQN0tsE2H5F

Great wisdom. You have to move into this work with a serious intent. This is a path that requires great patience; to "become" along this journey requires you to move outside of time; to know you have committed yourself to a lifetime of movement. There can be no despair that you "haven't seen results yet." That way of thinking is rooted in fear. Transform that energetic signature into Purpose. Then the only answer to this despair is "We were 4% better today", at some dimension of our practice.

Nice video. The Art of Jeet Kune Do by Bruce Lee was the first book I ever read and finished. I read it multiple times, whether it is considered a “real” book or not, there was a ton of snippets and philosophy that applies to way more than only martial arts. I realized early on in my life that mastery is not any styles, but more about expression of the unique self. Using all of our own experiences and our unique body composition to create what makes sense for oneself.

Thank you so much Grant for publishing this video. It brought so much awareness to my mind on not only that you explain so much the importance of Martial arts training, you also break down certain elements in detail on how to Express oneself with the art of balance. That all being said I really appreciate an individual like yourself that motivates people like me to keep striving to the best that i could be, and will can continue to learn from these virtues day by day and how to be like water in my everyday life. Thank you so much once again for showing this video, and hopefully slowly but surely I will also learn how to motivate others with all these inspirations that many people like yourself out there in the world will keep the Martial arts way alive. May you have a Happy new year and live freely with happiness and peace. From Zachary Hermon in USA.

Brother, your flow, technique, and speed is always an absolute treat to watch! Thanks! I have a suggestion for a potential discussion point/video topic: how to string together these combinations of varying ranges and landing them, which I guess would require proper footwork or simulating an incoming opponent to change the range. For example, how to adjust the shadowboxing to simulate the tight close range hooks landing as well as the long range kicks. Thanks!

Yo bro I've been watching ur videos and I love the content and tips u give us. I just wanted to ask a question... I want to have a better physique like more definition in the muscles, more muscle mass and strong powerful muscles that help me develop that punching power. What I mean is, I want bigger muscles and physique and be able to punch harder but not to the extent where these muscles would limit the range of motion whilst punching. So can u share any tips on how to have a bigger and better physique with the ability to punch harder but not not limit the range of motion whilst punching (a program dedicated to a boxing athlete not a gymbro) sorry the question was lengthy
@grantstevensma
@grantstevensma Ай бұрын
Thank you brother. A few things here to note that punching power doesn't come from muscle mass, rather from technique, which explains why a trained guy who's small will always out punch a musclebound guy who has no training. What I would suggest is focusing primarily on developing your punching skills so they are so familiar that they aren't going anywhere if your body changes a little... Then you can work on gaining some more mass. But if you try and gain the mass at the same time as refining the technique, you're gonna have some problems. In fact, one of my recent videos was about exactly this topic, you should check it out.

@@grantstevensma so technique is always the priority and then the physique and muscle/training Thx man I will definitely try doing that
@grantstevensma
@grantstevensma Ай бұрын
@ yeh bro you’ll never get punching power from muscle alone. Otherwise the biggest guys would automatically have the most powerful punches which we know is not the case. Focus on technique and learning to derive power that way by hitting heavy bags etc. That will actually develop a ton of functional muscle and then if you want a little more you can build that up on top.

Yours potential is limitless, may I ask what you train often and how much you knowing the chinese's principles? Abouts relax and effortless, balance and leave ego, plyometric & isometric too... Art can't stand up strong in those who are not artist, artists as well too often cannot handle them energy's carry on and its just emotionally hard unto themselves... I knew... know, and will do:) ! Structure is very good job and breathing... but is more likely to get in to our over 35yo (36) ahahah, qi gong and stretching... finally weapons training, which helps a lot to understanding the same principles that's made in thousands years ❤😊 hope I can get something useful as you did to me a lots of times in those years:)

@grantstevensma I think it'd be phenomenal. A lot of the principles and mindsets you talk about don't always need a video (which there's nothing wrong eith btw) but could have smaller or longer podcasts to go into more depth. Or simply podcast versions of ur KZbin videos
