i don't get it because in the graph it is heading towards the negative side (upwards to the left) and if its positive shouldn't it be heading up towards the right side of the graph? someone please explain

If the SLOPE of the line were positive, the slope would go up from left to right. That is not the same as the coefficients in standard form being positive. If we put it in slope intercept form (y = mx +b), the slope (m) is negative. 3x + 2y = 6 -3x -3x Subtract 3x on both sides 2y = -3x + 6 y = -3/2 x + 3 Divide both sides by 2. This reveals the SLOPE is - 3/2. Hence a NEGATIVE slope going down from left to right.

+DiamondXman If the equation were "-3x + 2y = 6", the y-intercept would remain 3, but the x- intercept would be -2. This is because the solution to -3x + 2(0) = 6 is x = -2.
