Hope you enjoyed this new format! Below are timestamps to the 5 features: 0:07 Per-connection MAC randomization 1:03 Built-in network firewall 1:49 User profiles 2:42 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth auto timeout 3:17 Storage scopes And yes: “network” is spelled wrong at the end of the video 🤦‍♂️

Graphene OS has completely changed my life for the good. Less time wasted. Less stress. Wonderful benefits. It took time to wean myself off the Google teet, but I did it and I've never felt so free.

the wifi situation is even worse on ios than you described: you can't completely disable wifi in the quick settings. you can only set it to not scan for networks anymore

Good point!! Unless you’re in airplane mode, then those buttons actually turn them off. Since my iPhone is just my filing and video device, it’s always in airplane mode. So it’s easy for me 😀

Excellent coverage, once again, of important GrapheneOS features. Hopefully, you will get around to a full walkthrough of how to set up additional profiles as I find it a bit confusing - not to mention tedious, having to set up a new profile from scratch. This could be that I'm making to much of it. You're doing great work which I appreciate. Keep it up.

Definitely excited to give it a try because my iPhone 8 running iOS 11 is slowly becoming less and less functional as apps remove support for this version and a lot of unwanted “features” got added to newer versions along with the good stuff, time to take myself off the apple infrastructure.

I took myself off the iOS infrastructure after the first use when someone GAVE me an iphone 3! Right away I saw so many limitations I ran away as fast as possible but now I'm looking more towards GrapheneOS over a decade later.

I love gOS. It's just such a nice experience. People who say it's hard to use are just wrong. To me it feels more like an upgrade to stock android. Much more cool stuff to play with. As long as Strcat and his guys keep up the good work, I will never, ever go back to stock android or ios. At this point I would like to mention that the grapheneOS project is running extremely low on development resources, and strcat is literally working day and night to keep it running. Please consider donating if you like graphene os, so they can pay for devs.

The Pixel 5 I have now is my first Pixel phone as I’ve always been an Apple user. So I can’t really compare, but I love my Pixel 5. Used you can find for a good price too, especially once the Pixel 7 releases I’m guessing 5 will go down more.

Pixel 6 is state of the art, and is the first in the series to use the Tensor SoC. 7 doesn't really extend security so whether or not you want it is up to you.

@@meyerschwartz5475 that’s a good point! Yes, I believe my Pixel 5 security support is done Oct 2023. So I agree, probably choosing 6 or higher is best if planning on keeping the phone for a long time, especially since security updates are now 5 years from release.

Just a quick question which Phone and Messaging apps you use ? I am searching to replace the Google Phone and Messages app with better Open Source apps In your video "Graphene OS: 9 Months Later and No Turning Back" you mentioned all the other apps but didn't even show those two apps. BTW Love your videos :) You deserve much more subscribers ❤️

As Mitchell mentioned, Signal has an option to be used as SMS as well. However if you’d like to stay away from that, search simplemobiletools in fdroid or droidify. All of the “Simple” apps come up and you’ll find their Dialer and SMS Messenger. I’d probably recommend those.

Does anyone have a video or link to where I can get a sense of the top 25 apps or so ppl use on GOS? Is there a list of apps you kind of can’t use on it? How do I find out if the near full functional pixel camera app is now available through GOS? I know they said later this year they’d either have their own camera app or somehow took stock app and privatized it for us. Thx I think I’m going to make the leap to this soon.

The only major features I know of that don't work on GrapheneOS are Android Auto & using Google pay with NFC payments. Note that NFC works, google pay works, you just can't use the "tap to pay" feature with the phone itself, because it does not pass the higher "attestation level" required by google for that function. The google camera works well, with the optional play services installed. Definitely encourage you to try it, the control you gain over your digital life is amazing.

How secure are the profiles when travelling internationally? Let me put some context to my question….some countries will demand your user name and passwords to electronic equipment when you go through their security checkpoints/customs. I am curious if you could create a ‘homey pot’ profile with no real information and have access to other profiles behind the OS security/firewall leaving the government agencies would completely blind to your private information? Alternatively, are you able to store profiles in a secure cloud and reset your phone to factory settings as you enter a jurisdiction, then flash your profiles back once you’re past the security checkpoint?
@Jst4vdeos
@Jst4vdeos 11 ай бұрын
Why would you ever enter a country that requires you to give up username and passwords?
@markandrews1219
@markandrews1219 11 ай бұрын
@@Jst4vdeos Many countries do demand travellers to provide access to electronic devices. Depending on what you read it’s difficult to truly know your legal rights in each jurisdiction. It may differ for citizens of that country and visitors. However, most people do not question authorities and simply comply to demands. This becomes the seeds for more power over both citizens and visitors. My question was oriented towards creating a honey pot where the inspectors of an electronic device would see a simulated profile.

Pixel devices have a specific security chip (Titan) which is why the GrapheneOS team chose Pixel devices for their custom OS. It, combined with google's Tensor chip prevents malicious re-flashing or other security exploits that ensures your phone stays secure, without any software added to it not of your own choosing. There's a reason why Edward Snowden uses and supports GrapheneOS, when security is the primary concern. It's possible - but highly unlikely - that other phone models will be officially supported in the near future.
