How to fade audio in and out in Camtasia and how to change audio points to vary the volume on an audio file or clip with audio. This is a very simple beginner tutorial showcasing the basics of Techsmith Camtasia video editing.
You can alter the audio on a clip in two ways - one of them is via the audio effects. There are specially-created audio fade-in and out effects that you can simply drag and drop on your audio clip and affect the start and end.
But if you want more complex audio fading and volume changes, you can use the custom audio points functionality that allows you to add audio variation at any point in the audio clip, by double-clicking the audio line on the clip. You may have to increase the height of the audio track to be able to edit the audio points comfortably.

Cristi, Your videos on Camtasia are definitely the best. Would you sometime shows us how you do your own picture in picture (at bottom right of the screen) that you zoom so smoothly. I look forward to a tutorial on this subject. I appreciate instructions that are to the point with no unwanted embellishments, which some times confuse the issue. In this department you achieve top marks. Thanks for your excellent videos. Keep up the good work.

Thanks so much, Harry! Sorry for the late reply. I am glad you find my videos useful. I have already recorded a video showing how I do the whole picture-in-picture and how I animate it as part of a full tutorial editing workflow. I will publish that shortly.

Cristi, Another excellent video. Can you share with us the best way to edit music tracks when the "song" is longer than the video. For example the music track I am bringing in is 2 mins and 34 seconds but my video is 4 mins and 44 seconds. I don't want it to sound choppy but want nice contineous music. Thank you again for the time you take to make these videos, for the Saturday live streams and sharing with all of us! By the way, are you doing a live stream this Saturday?

Hey Jaime, thank you! I appreciate your feedback. To answer your question about music, if the music is too long, your options would be to 'add more video' (which might not work, of course!) or cut the music. And by cutting the music, I would find the nicest part of the song that is appropriate to the video and cut the rest. Another way to do is to remove repetitive portions of the music, like for example, if the song has 4 verses and you really just fit 2, remove 2 in such a way that the music is seamless and uninterrupted. If the video is LONGER than the song, you can again, take portions of the song and repeat them, seamlessly, to fit the song. It is a different consideration if the music has voice or not. This is easier to do on instrumental music, of course. I am not encouraging 'stretching' the music. I know that it can be done in other software but it will most certainly lead to distorted audio and nobody wants to listen to that. As far as this Saturday, a lot of people seem to be enjoying Thanksgiving so I might skip. My daughter is also visiting and my wife is attending a Christmas fair so, quite a busy Saturday! But I'll be back next week most definitely. I will publish more videos and am also starting to do live coaching sessions. If you're interested, I can book one for you and help you with anything you need :) . Would something like that be interesting?
