It been a while since I've been seeing silly comments about Bjj that is not effective in real situations. I don't go to class and play guard in sport bjj since 2015 because i think It will help me in a street fight, I do that because it's funny and I stay fit doing that. But I just know that if punches are involved, I would never play any guard, closed, half, sitting etc and I'll always try to be the guy on top. Even if someone project you, get the f**k up, protect the chin from blows, get an underhook and be the top guy. It's still bjj and the top passing game its still effective. End of the story.

The issue here and the reason why so many BJJ specialists become so effective is because people miss the pitfalls without the experience. You don’t just wanna smash and push even when you’re striking you leave everything around your legs exposed for a submission

100% Absolutely correct, MMA and BJJ are 2 different things. The dynamics of mixing grappling and striking are very different and completely changes both functionally. In a real fight situation you have to know those changes or your in trouble from either direction.

You absolutely can pass guard in a street fight. Actually, the street fighter usually won’t even realize what happened because they will be trying to get up. But he has a point about staying up. I’ve been in one street fight since starting Bjj. I ended up passing guard into knee on belly with strikes ending it.

Exactly. Sport JJ has veered so far away from its vale tudo and UFC roots. Helio's lineage has the right idea when they teach their white belts about fighting/self-defense JJ first - it's what is more relevant to MMA and actual fighting.

If it was a mma match or street fight, there will also be upkicks coming your way so his advice, "in a REAL fight" (an admission to the passive nature of bjj), just straddling a shin isn't gonna be a very easy job.
@tjl4688 Жыл бұрын
Upkicks are a risk, yes, especially in MMA. In a REAL fight though, you basically have no business trying to enter headquarters and start punching. If you can put your attacker into open guard like this, self-defence is over.
