Perfect Dark N64 - G5 Building: Reconnaissance - Perfect Agent

I like the smaller touches to this game. For a game built on the goldeneye engine, its got a lot of ambitions. Breakable lights, the gun can be shot out of your enemy's hand. The enemy can draw a sidearm if that happens or they can surrender. Secondary function for most of the guns. Unarmed melee is improved. etc. The only problems I see are graphical, and that's a nit-pick for a 20, almost 21 year old game.

I will add that the level design is mostly dreadful and was criticised even at launch. Too many identical and symmetrical corridors (particularly on Pelagic II and Attack Ship) with no hints and you were just left feeling dizzy and fed up. Crash Site is also a total rabbit warren. That, and Perfect Agent is IMO just sadistically and unnecessarily hard. There's no need for that. It was also just a case of enemies being harder and doing more damage while the opposite was true for you. Very much of its time and not really acceptable now.

​@@deserthobo the combat isn't even hard on modern systems with mouse input. gitting gud in this game is mostly rote memorization of all the cheap "gotcha" moments they threw in to pad a 2 hour campaign out to 10 hours. wouldn't be such a problem if the levels were designed more fairly, if there was health regeneration or if enemies couldn't take out 70% of your health because of something you couldn't possibly see coming

2:00-3:41 this entire cutscene is just incredible writing that i always loved as a kid and teen, and it's still impressive to rewatch as an adult, even despite the visual quality's own aging.

The characters in this game were ahead of their time. Cassandra, Trent, and Mr. Blonde were excellent villains with great designs. If Perfect Dark is ever revisited and expanded upon I hope their characters get more time to shine and be fleshed out.

A few years ago, I came up with an idea for a Perfect Dark sequel and posted it on Reddit: old.reddit.com/r/perfectdark/comments/6opvvs/my_idea_for_a_perfect_dark_sequel_thoughts/ I would absolutely _love_ for the franchise to undergo some sort of modern revival. Here's hoping Microsoft will recognize the potential of its intellectual property and do something with it. I would buy a next-gen Xbox (was it "Series S" or something, I don't know) for a new Perfect Dark _alone._

I bought the expansion pack for my N64 awhile ago and I'm glad that I did, because the prices for those are ridiculous. Like $50 or more. I think I bought mine for $10 or $15.

There's actually a mistake in the script. Mr. Blonde refers to "backup plans" in quotes even though nobody actually said it. They said "contingency plans".

Another method you could have approach is the one I did back then. I remember my brain activated this weird method 😆. Plant the CamSpy right outside the meeting area but do not enter. Reach the area where the giant safe door has to open. Once that sequence activates, open up your CamSpy and go into the meeting to initiate the cutscene with Trevor and Cassandra. Once the cutscene ends the safe door will be open and you can avoid all that shooting. That's how I was able to unlock the Cheat 😎

I find they are not always reliable. I usually switch it to proximity mode and stick it somewhere. But as soon as the guards come, they walk through the blast without dying

One thing I never understood about this game. Why didn't they allow you to combine the falcon 2 scope with the silencer. All the while, the guards are shooting, wouldn't they call in for back-up. Wouldn't the other guards hear their loud guns going off? And these guards have some of the same faces. Did they somehow come back to life?

About the guard's faces - there were only so many faces that could be used. Goldeneye was the same way. They wouldn't come back to life though (in case you weren't being sarcastic about that idea). Sometimes other guards hear the gunshots and show up or sound alarms. It depends on if multiple people are around. A combination scope & silencer would be great though
