Behold Scaramuzza's teachings. The use of the finger starts at the metacarpal joint, and you must have steel fingers. It creates a strong grasp. But I want to understand why the arch goes up as a result of the use of a finger, or rather, why that is considered the initial reaction, as opposed to the wrist?

If the wrist goes up first, the potent center of the arch, the MCP joint, risks emptying out. This is an important distinction and it is where many pianists stray. Yes, the wrist must be flexible, but not at the expense of arch potency. Thanks for a very relevant question!

You are absolutely right, nobody can equal the master. But we can admire him and try to figure out what was good in his playing...
