From left to right: Dennis Provisor on keys, Warren Entner on guitar, Rick Coonce on drums, Rob Grill on bass, and Terry Furlong on lead guitar. These guys did play on some of their records, but the hits were a group of studio musicians known as the Wrecking Crew, who like the Funk Brothers at Motown, played on TONS of hit records. Jan & Dean, Johnny Rivers, Gary Puckett, 5th Dimension, Mamas & Papas, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Beach Boys, The Turtles, etc.....all the Wrecking Crew band.

@ttttttc I used to run the Grass Roots web site "Golden Grass" & many people wrote to say they thought the Roots should be in the R'n'R Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, they won't get there because most of their records were played by studio musicians. The only hits the Grass Roots actually played on were "Sooner or Later" and "Two Divided By Love" - both featured the entire band playing on them, augmented only by a horn section. They didn't play horns, but producer Steve Barri liked horns. Me too.
