This was a grate recipe, and I grately enjoyed all the grate advice you gave us. There has never been a grater reason to make this grate grated apple crisp recipe, and the grating technique is, undeniably, a grate trick to enhance what is already a grate experience. @@rainydaylady6596 Our crumble is always just white sugar, flour and butter. Get it to a sandy consistence that holds it shape when you press it into a ball! 2 parts flour, one part each sugar and butter (room temp or cold). It's best when you don't crumble it on too finely! It's very popular in germany, for example Streuselkuchen ("crumble cake")

Couple of thoughts ... First is about the topping which I agree seems to almost always include the oates ... Except in my family 😊 ... The recipe my mother gave me when I went to college (which came from her mother) calls for a half a cup of solid butter, 1 cup of white sugar, and 3/4 of a cup of flour ... What you cream together to create a crumble. My second thought, is something I discovered in college ... That while apples are usually what people are looking for, a very easy alternative is a bag of frozen blueberries and a bag of frozen raspberries ... Mix them together in your buttered baking dish, no sugar or spices ... Then crumble the topping over and bake while you're having dinner. It seems to take quite a long time, like an hour to an hour and a half, but it is a sweet and tart wonderful and easy desert.

I bet it'd work really nicely with pears, too. Even better, in my experience you CAN eat a pear's core, so you don't have to fuss with avoiding it when doing the shredding.
