These horses have a great life. They’re exquisite athletes. People who think it’s abuse are just ignorant. 8 seconds of bucking a couple times a weekend, several times a year and the rest of the time out in acres and acres of green pasture, grain and hay. I’d say it’s a good life for a horse.

@@CHEVYedsf not if it's bred for bucking. These horses have pedigrees that go back through generations of bucking horses. It's an innate ability. It's what they were born to do. Even if you try to use them for something else you'd almost always have to deal with the fact that horses with this type of breeding are inherently broncy. There are hundreds of other breeds that make wonderful riding horses, but rodeo broncs aren't one of them. You don't try to make a barrel horse out of an Andalusian, and you don't try to make a riding horse out of a rodeo stock.

13 isn't that old. My wife's old Thoroughbred lived to be 34, and he still looked great. He still had lots of muscle, shiny coat, and was totally sound after years of hunter/jumper competition. Colic took him.

I believe he is 100% bucking horse. Purebred pedigrees don't matter as much with bucking horses, it is their ability that stock contractors are looking at. I believe that the majority of bucking horses are grade horses that have the disposition needed for the job. Not saying they are mean, bad horses, just that they love to buck.

@@rowdyyeets4532 .he is not as tall as he appears in the video ...he is average size 15.2' -16 max..which the average height of a modern morgan is 15.2 ..Morgans for the decades have been bred to be all around sport/show horses therefore it is no longer a rarity to see a 16hh morgan, especially a stud.

It sounds to me that you don't know anything regarding the sport. The reason they buck is because of the flank strap. All the flank strap does is encourage the animal to buck higher, And it does not hurt them in any way. I say you need to do your research before trying to make a statement!

Agreed! That's what I thought too. These poor horses are bred and trained do something most smart people don't want, and those "cowboys" are trying to act like "tough men" and ride those bucking animals, pushing them to their limits, and they buck so hard sometimes that they break a leg (or even two!) or their neck. And when they retire, as you said, they won't have a new chance at life, people won't be able to ride them and they'll just buck, buck, buck. Ugh.

If the horse or bull does not want to buck in rodeos, then the stock contractor won't force him to buck in rodeos! The animal will just hang out in the pasture and be used for breeding purposes. @@virginiamoss7045 Rodeos are bad, but horse racing is not as bad as people say it is. Horses love to run if they're bred for it and trained properly, and are treated with love and care. Sadly, lots of people fall under the name of 'bad horse rider', but horse racing has made improvements, time from time. Horse jumping is just as dangerous as racing. Aslong as the people around the horses are good, the races are fine.

I laughed so hard at the irony of all the money spent to acquire Secretariate's progeny for years and years, none of which turned out to be very good at racing. Upon his death they discovered his amazing power and endurance was just a rare fluke of nature, a very oversized heart. I'm fighting horse racing in Georgia because of the corruption and abuse like running two-year-olds, not because of the gambling which most people here are morally against. My brother is a veterinarian. He knows what goes on in racing and at rodeos and other events. People will often do anything to win. Take the competition out of it and much of the abuse will disappear. Rodeos are the most abusive of all and not just for horses, but for bulls as well.

The Cheyenne rodeo is by far the worst. We know that there are cruel rodeos out there. Just like there are cruel farms,dog breeders, dog shows,horse shows, and much more. sig1528 maybe folks want a good horse rather than a mongrel mustang. You won’t see any BLM horses winning ribbons as eventers or racers and very few in advanced training like dressage or reining. They simply aren’t good enough. Trail riding in weekends, sure. But the world of horse people have much broader interests than just that. THIS stallion is a dandy. Tough, durable, athletic. I’d love a colt off him for ranch work

First of all all Rodeo associations require that the riders use dull rowels on their Spurs! Second of all, putting a flank strap on a bucking horse is no different to you putting on a belt, and it's covered in sheepskin, therefore it doesn't hurt the horse at all! GET YOUR EDUCATION FIRST, THEN GO OUT AND TRY AND MAKE A MEDIOCRE "ANIMAL ACTIVIST" STATEMENT LIKE THE ONE YOU JUST TRIED TO MAKE!
