That was my only New Years show. I stood outside with a sign “I need a miracle” and a guy who worked with Bill Graham productions came up to me and sold me a ticket for $20. After I was inside, I saw a mob of people charge the doors to try and get in, and the cops beat them back. I was feeling so lucky to be inside. Then I found a good spot in the middle of the floor and sat on some structure that gave me a good view of the show. It was great.

You're comment gave me a hearty grin I feel this show is worthy of the official release the setlist is cool the Etta James encores only reinforce that notion for me Lol I just watched Tucker Carlson on Rogan talking about how he stole his parents car in San fran when he was 15n drove 2 hrs to a dead gig got miracle 1 ticket n then abandoned his 13 brother who was tripping balls and how he went in woundup chains making in a bathroom stall peaking on psilocybin fungus buttons and subsequently found his brother in the lot . Lol you just don't get life experiences like that at non Dead concerts lol

I know everybody hated Dayjob ,but I always thought it was the Dead's way of saying" OK guys we've all; had fun, but don't take any of this too seriously. Living on the road takes more brains and balls than most of you have got!"And God bless the child who's got his own stash, 9 to 5 and a place to crash!

Jerry's really swinging his axe at this concert. It's funny because this concert was on a Friday. I had moved out to Cal. from Col. I was working in Oakland and living in Berkeley. I was riding home from work at about 5:30pm. I read in the paper that they were playing at the auditorium that night. I saw them there about a year ago when I first came out. So I was thinking to myself "oh well, that's nice but I don't think I'll go because I've got a good job now" I also started drinking too much. Then I read in the article, as I was passing the arena that they were playing a new song they had written called "Day Job".

Ya have to laugh at Bob Weir though...He hate's ballons and during these New Year shows they alway had loads of them. I was there for the whole run and got into every show. Some of that run was a bit blurry, but not all of it. I remember that night not only because Bill Graham rode into 1983 on a giant mushroom, but because I actually went up to him later on that night and shook his and thanked him for putting one hell of a five night shindig. Another memory able to pierce through the haze that night was watching about a half dozen or so friends who formed a dancing circle while they passed around a Visine bottle full of dreams just like it was a big phattie dropping it on each others tongues or even in theirs eyes while they simultaneously feed each other fresh strawberries in the theatrically debauched manner of a Hollywood produced Roman orgy scene and they didn't stop passing the Visine till the bottle ran dry. I don't see how I could ever forget witnessing that. Later on after the show we were fed a breakfast of rolls, jelly and fresh oranges, and they allowed us to stay in the venue till dawn. I'm glad I didn't forget everything...

Wow.. perhaps there is some credence to your argument... but I totally disagree. His sound did change a little in the late 80's, to a brighter, sort of a carousel sound .. but creative musicians are always changing sound... Brent did much to keep the cohesion and energy alive in the band in the late 80's as Jerry's playing became predictable (ie Blow Away, Crimson White and Indigo DVD).. his rough lead vocal was signature, man.. reminiscent of classic soul singers like Ray Charles...
