I was there. A lot of Hells Angels in the audience which was weird when you're high, but it was epic. First Terrapin at this show, and they were on top of their game, very tight, because they had just finished recording Terrapin Station in Van Nuys right before the concert. It and Winterland in March '77 were a couple of my favorite shows ever. I saw every show on the West Coast in '77, an epic year. Oh, to be 23 years old again. Good memories.

I was at this show. The boys were really on their game. The crowd was very focused, I felt that almost everyone was dosed. Bob Hunter was leaning over an amp up on the stage watching the whole thing unfold.

It is fascinating to hear the massive amount of energy and focus they had in '77. It is undeniable they were playing with a new and different energy...whatever it was due to, it slowly waned over the year. I love each iteration of the band, but this period is most interesting. I know Jerry got a massive infection at some point but the changes in the music were inevitable since change was the Dead's most important element. But the snap to the few months of this golden year are truly remarkable. This might be the most underrated band of all time.

For some, Cornell 77 is their favorite Dead show. Others say Dick's Picks 10 is their favorite. Not sure of the date, but I have it and in the booklet it says many consider it the best show the Dead ever did. For me, this is my favorite Dead show of all time! It was my first bootleg I ever bought and I got it on CD first and then I found it on cassette tape! I believe, but I do not know for fact, that this was the only show they ever opened with Terrapin Station. It was also the first time they ever played Terrapin AND Estimated Prophet! The Terrapin, Eyes, Dancin, Help/slipknot/Franklin's are some of the best ever! Thanks for sharing! Someone down below said this is Dick's Picks 29? I guess that's what they meant. They just wrote Dick's Picks 29 so I don't know for sure. Maybe that's just their favorite.

@@charlie.something dude, I hear ya. I'm not even a huge fan of Franklin's, but it sounds good, but the help>slipknot is music at its finest. I don't even discuss music with people that are into new stuff anymore. No matter how much I try to explain that combo, or Allman Brothers Fillmore East show or any other number of things, there are just some people who are incapable of ever understanding. When I discovered the late 70's Dancin I about lost my mind. I heard the 60's/early 70's version but this song finding it so early in my Dead adventures was awesome! I cannot sit still while it is playing. I've tried lol. I was fortunate enough a few years into my Dead collecting when I met a dude who told me about archive.org and it was when they still had the soundboards. He was burning certain years onto cd and I did others and we would fill up CD books and trade them and copy what the other had! I have so many shows from that it's crazy! Everything from 65-95 and even a bunch of stuff like acid tests, rehearsals for a new studio album, a whole album of just jams I've never heard anywhere else from them like the Stonehouse rehearsals is one, I have albums of new piano/keyboard players rehearsaling with the band in the beginning of their tenure, I have several things like the Grateful Dead movie, I have it's soundtrack AND I have all of the shows from that run in Winterland that they selected from for the soundtrack. I have the 2 Egypt 78 shows in their entirety and so much more. I literally hit the jack pot. About the time we got burnt out from constantly downloading shows they took off the soundboards and I think all of mine except maybe a couple are SB's. I have about 958 CD's worth of Dead! They have so much talent that these so called musicians of today look like a person doing shitty karaoke at a dive bar lol.

Without a doubt now under rated and somewhat being forgotten in that the entire world seems to on its wind down prior to the death rattle it will be letting go with as it's very close to giving up the Ghost. Going out with a whimper . Never thought I'd be in the Generation to see it happen. Get right God. Looked like it's all gonna come true very shortly.
