@@TeezMcGee when live concerts are allowed again, you HAVE to go see Dead and Company, which is three of the 4 surviving members of the Grateful Dead (Bob Weir (my Lord and savior) rhythm guitar and vocals; Mickey Hart on drums and Bill Kreutzmann on drums; John Mayer on lead guitar and vocals; Otiel Burbridge ( from the Allman Bros Band) on bass; and Jeff Chimenti on keys). It's not the Dead of the Jerry Garcia days, but you'll have a great time. I'm in NY, they usually play Citifield on their tours.

Part of Without a Net was recorded at Nassau Coliseum on Ling Island NY. I was there. I live 20 minutes away. Saw the Dead every time they were in the Tri-state area (NY, CT, NJ). I was there for the Eyes of The World with Branford Marsalis on this album March 29, 1990.

OK... there is ONE studio song from the Grateful Dead that is FANTASTIC for getting stoned and listening to. TERRAPIN STATION (suite). There are great live versions... but the STUDIO version is AMAZING. It's about 15 or 16 minutes long. A real trip.

There was nothing like a Grateful Dead concert. This is one of my favortie versions of this song, just beautiful. Another beauty is Row Jimmy from the Cornell '77 concert. Along with everything else from that show.

This is literally the song. THIS version of the song, that made John Mayer join the grateful dead and learn all the songs. Not like I like John's songs or anything, but he IS a damn good guitarist.

Such a great song and such a great performance. Excellent choice, whoever picked it. And the dead played two sets at each of their concerts....this song was played in set one.

Here's the lineup for this era of the Dead. Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir - Guitars and Vocals, Phil Lesh - Bass and occasional Vocals, Brent Mydland - Keyboards and Vocals, Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart - Drums and Percussion. Other members over the years include, but not at the same time: Ron "Pigpen" McKernan -Keyboards, Harmonica and Vocals, Tom Constanten - Keyboards, Keith Godchaux - Keyboards, Donna Jean Godchaux - Vocals, Vince Welnick - Keyboards and Vocals and Bruce Hornsby - Keyboards, Accordion and Vocals. Plus literally hundreds of guests on stage during shows. They were all about the music, and having a great sound system to hear it through. They have used all McIntosh amps since they did a gig with The Allman Brothers Band and The Band at Watkins Glen, Rracetrack, N.Y in 1973, in front of 600,000 maniacs.

It's not simplistic, the genius that you are appreciating between the Dead and Phish, is that it's all about the space between, and the notes they don't play.
@justinbakerking3 жыл бұрын

Very true. As significant as notes themselves, the spaces between notes are freighted with ambient sound, and add fullness to the overall piece.

Nice version - though a lot of us deadheads spend our lives trying to find the best versions of Althea/Sugaree and other dead songs. For me it all comes down the the solos. In this one they're nice, but they're not complete jaw dropping fire as some of them achieve. The dead - two guitarists: Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir on rhythm - usually two drummers: Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart - Bass: Phil Lesh, and varied keyboard players because they keep dying. This one is Brent Midland.

Remember they were a live band. Jerry said they never made a good studio album with a chuckle. Everyone one of their thousands of shows was recorded by audience members and off the board. They said that’s fine, we were finished with those songs so they can have them, meaning their songs were different every time they played them 👍

DOES ANYBODY KNOW .... WHY THE GRATEFUL DEAD HAVE NOT WON EVEN ''O N E'' PRESTIGEOUS MUSIC AWARD OR BEEN RECOGNISED FOR ANY MUSIC TROPHY (like a Grammy) OR OTHER . . . ? DID THE MUSIC INDUSTRY INTENTIONALLY SNUB THESE MUSICIANS FOR A REASON ? ? ? I'M JUST ASKING FOR MY OWN CURIOSITY AND WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS AN ANSWER....

id suggest ripple because thats the one that hooked me on them, that and throwing stones. they arent my favorite band but they just have soo many great songs. where a band like zeppelin or floyd may have 60-100 songs in their collection the dead have more like 500 more really with so many live versions that are completely different from the studio tracks, plus some great cover songs mixed in. and speaking of covers check out "second that emotion" from 4-29-71, and also "shakedown street" studio version probably best to start on that one. and sometime down the line check out "Crazy fingers"
