Their early work tended toward sci-fi and cerebral, which just didn't really attract many women. There are few absolutes, but generalities exist for a reason. That started changing around Spirit of Radio and really changed with Moving Pictures.
@johncrafton83198 сағат бұрын
How many other female fans have you met? Have you gone to any of their concerts? If so, how many women did you see? The idea came from a stark reality that the percentage of female fans has been so minuscule for so long. If they existed, they never made it known, and they never showed up for the concerts.

As a Rush fan, Time Stand Still has always been one of my favorites because it’s some of Neil’s best storytelling: a man wishing that a good life wasn’t passing so quickly. It hits so much harder now that the great man is gone. Aimee Mann’s voice adds the right amount of wistfulness and depth, and it’s just perfection.

(Male here) Closer to the Heart always sounded like Rush's appeal to women. It's an emotional song, sung from the heart, and musically direct - no stunt performances, just honest music. Red Barchetta is similar. Spirit of Radio has that HUGE mass crowd feel, like moving everyone together. I think Limelight is just so universal. I'm saying I think (in my limited male understanding of any female generalizations in music) these make sense as songs that might appeal to women more than something like Hemispheres or La Villa Strangiato or By Tor & the Snow Dog. And YES, I know I'm just guessing, and I'm probably wrong, but if I were to guess, I think I would have guessed those songs might be favorites among female Rush fans. (Unleash the flames.)

I'm a 63 year old female who grew up in Jersey. I was a fan from the get-go and when my girlfriend and I would go to bars (the late 70s) the band playing would typically ask if anyone wanted them to play a request -- and I'd always yell out, "Rush!" They would look back at me, roll their eyes, and say, "Yeah, right...no one can do Geddy's voice." No one ever remotely tried. But...I've been a full-on prog rock fan since the early days of Genesis with Peter Gabriel. Would love to see you do more bands of that nature here...and to talk about Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull. If you did one about either of those two, I definitely missed it and I've been reading your content for at least a year or so and also binge watching your older things. Love your in-depth analysis; no one does it better than you in my opinion.

Funny, l grew up where the guys from RUSH did, still live there now, and I’ve been to many of their concerts, and come to think about it…I don’t recall seeing any woman at those concerts. 🤔 Geddy’s mom gave out whole chocolate bars at Halloween. Back then that was a rare thing. I went to the same high school and had some of the same teachers too. FYI, Howie Mandel grew up a couple of black away from Geddy. Teacher did mind the boys from RUSH, but hated Howie. A while back, I was watching a documentary on RUSH, I found out that RUSH’s first concert was at the church I go to. My son thought that was really cool.

The boys went to a few of the High Schools in my area. My school was Northview Heights secondary school, in North York, which is part of the GTA, Greater Toronto Area. Just in case you were curious. I They were not known to be great students, and were kicked out of those schools for non attendance. Don’t get the whole, “Your not coming to school. Fine, as punishment, you can’t come to school”. Yeah, that just doesn’t make sense to me.

"Time stand still" is one of my favorite songs from Rush. Another favorite is "Vital Signs" from Moving Pictures. "Marathon" is yet another favorite.

As an 80s guy Rush fan, its been especially gratifying to see the world change their view on Rush in the last decade or so. No longer the band critics love to hate, but now a hall of fame all time legendary band. The proliferation of reaction channels fawning over Rush is nice to see.

I wish I could argue, but I can't. Been to a couple Rush concerts, but never saw many (if any) women. Had plenty of girlfriends (and two wives) who enjoyed music, but not one appreciated Rush. I know they're out there somewhere. Somewhere. Somewhere.

My first Rush concert in 1980, I went with my sister. Later ones I went with mostly male friends.

Neil's lyrics are thought-provoking and earnest, about the fragility of the moment and persistence of memory. Aimee's voice is so beautiful and adds a haunting quality to the melody, softening out Geddy's already quite high range and emphasising the delicate quality of the lyrics. Proper genius songwriting and music production.

That’s an accurate statement. I’m female & never was a fan, but during the golden age of MTV…I heard their songs & kinda liked them. But I never was into them. A few years back I found myself revisiting their songs & I found them relaxing & enjoyable. I have an affinity for them I never had! 🎸 😎

Aimee Mann is a super talented lyricist. Wrote with such lyrical legends as Elvis Costello, Difford & Tilbrook (Squeeze).

I discovered Aimee Mann because of RUSH. I was in JR high when that album dropped. All I listened to was rock radio. I started off right, RUSH, Black Sabbeth, Led Zeppelin, and Iron Maiden.

Time Stand Still is just a great song and a short diversion for the band. Love the music. Love the sentiments. Aimee Mann added that extra cherry on top.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. I love Rush!!! I am a female and I have always loved Rush! One of the first albums in my collection was 2112! I was almost 14 when it came out. I love them for the complexity of their music. Tom Sawyer is my favorite! Aimee Mann is a crossword puzzle clue I get once in a while, but never knew who she was until this video. LOL. Thanks! Now I know who she is. 😊 Thank you for another great show! Have a most awesome day!!! 😊. ❤️ To everyone!

Rush was always an amazingly wonderful prog rock band making such a big sound with only three musicians. I think they are one of those bands where new generations will keep rediscovering them and their greatness.

I am a female fan in my late 20s. I like a lot of Canadian Classic Rock bands like Rush, Harem Scarem, Triumph, April Wine, Loverboy, The Headpins, Kim Mitchell, The Guess Who, Chiliwack and Trooper. I am also a fan of Aimee Mann and 'Til Tuesday and have all her solo albums.

I've seen Rush dozens of times over the decades in the different parts of the country I lived in. And honestly, as the years went by, I noticed more and more females in the crowds and more "obvious" female fans, singing along and even air drumming. However, part of that is that when I was younger, ticket prices were MUCH cheaper, so groups of "duuudes!" would buy the tickets and go together to party. I'd see a sea of dudes and maybe one or two guys would bring their girlfriend. As I got older, the ticket prices skyrocketed and also I became a family man. The last time I went to see Rush was at Red Rocks 4th row and I brought my wife and sons ( at that time aged 11,his 3rd show and 6, his first). Was surprised at how many entire families were at that show, and of course, a few groups of "duuuudes!", most of them in their 40s and older and high as a kite, lol.

In 1980, seated around the break room, there were several women who were fans of Rush. Admittedly, the biggest fan was a guy. Hearing them discussing Rush got me to give them a listen. Not my favorite band but I appreciate their music. ☕️☕️🎶🎵🎶

I ran a bar co-owned by Alex, on a trip to London my Ex and I got to go see Rush at Wembley stadium. After the show back stage my wife asked the guys “do you know what the best part of a Rush show is?” “ no lineup in the women’s washroom”’.

My first concert during the Moving Pictures tour. Bought my ticket from a scalper who was asking $15 but said he couldn't make change so I paid $20. My older brother's first concert during the Farewell to Kings tour. That's when he turned me on to Rush. My younger brother's first concert during the Grace Under Pressure tour.
