The young Grateful Dead, developing the raging power that would soon come to be effortlessly transmitted.... PERFECT meld of video and audio; it actually gave me goosebumps! Study your history. Revolutionary times, my friends.....and they are soon to come again.....

Thank you for these priceless images, which should be available forever. Excellent work. Great editing and the sound is well suited. The same images, but with Original sound - no matter what quality - would also be appreciated.

Still you are lucky benji. I got to see him for 3 years of shows until he got sick and stayed home. About nine or so times total. Wish I could have seen more!

That park show was 1975. I was there. I was also at the Winterland 74 "Last" show when Mickey returned into the fold toward the end of a week long run. At the time they were not sure if they would ever tour again. Believe it or not!

One of the many benefits the Dead did during their career. This show took place during the student strike at Columbia University.

So historical to see the police and the national guard there at the sit in at Columbia U. Nice to see the crowd in a groove with the music.

crap. KZbin would'nt let my post go thru. 'Error, try again'. And here I was, about to say something nice about Police and authority figures. about the vid footage, what odd, shuddering imagery. Just raw fear, that only 60's footage can capture.

Very cool video, but its labeled '68, there doesn't seem to be pigpen around, & Mickey is there... Do you know if the date is accurate? That being said (asked) awesome video, thanks for posting

Look, I love The Dead more than life itself, but I don't see the point posting any old open-air movie-clips of the band (of which there are hundreds) overdubbed with audio from indoor concerts from the Carousel or the Fillmore - even if they date from the same time. The editors have made a brave stab at synchronising fleeting moments of instrument and performer, but these are at best pastiches. Don't get me wrong; if you like this sort of thing be my guest, but there are plenty of videos of 'real' gigs out there to enjoy, and to post this as "The Dead at Columbia University on 5/3/68" is downright misleading. It may be what you're seeing, but it isn't what you're hearing.

It tells a story. All the non-GD footage is in chronological order.

I love this historical document of that happening, that theatre of radical consciousness, that expression of solidarity in the transracial, transsexual Hip movement, the crossroad whereat the acidhead dropouts meet and merge with Leftist radicals. We always wore a sense of history. This shit is important. Besides, to see that little boy play air-stick guitar makes this worth anyone's while of time. Thank you voodoonola/New Potato Caboose.

The Dead are ok if you want to get on the bus but Johnny Rebel is much better southern rock here on youtube.
@douglasnorris1097 жыл бұрын
Some so called LIVE recordings put out by the GD had instruments added, vocals changed, recording sped up, etc. I don't think the dead would have a problem with this. Far from it.

Adrian, I agree 110%!!! It is disingenuous at best and deceitful at worst.
