My first real concert. Only 17, small town boy in the Big City. Big fan of both SMB at the time and the Grateful Dead to this day. High as a kite lol. Needless to say, I was blown away. Changed my life utterly.

Pat, I could have posted the exact same comment as yours, word for word!! I'd also add that for me, Lesh's angular style , and full, rich tone was a revelation- one moment he'd be up on the neck, then floor you [almost literally!] with a perfectly placed low root note!! Bro, your name sounds really familiar- did you ever perform with my twin Neal?
@pjmjazz
@pjmjazz 2 жыл бұрын
@@brianalger4844 Totally on both accounts! My bro Mark and talk often about the unique bass playing he brought to the band! And yes, I've played with Neal on and off for 25 years! We just 2 weeks ago our band's shared the bill at the Elastic Arts! Neal and the band were killing it with his new compositions! I know Neal and I have discussed the dead before!!

I was sitting in a bar in Minneapolis the night before this show. It was a Dead Night were they played recently recorded shows. My friend Jes came in, said hi and asked if I was going to the shows tomorrow. I said no and he was less than happy with me. After yelling at me for a few minutes he made 3 phone calls for my tickets, my ride and my place to stay. I had no business being at this show, Jes did everything but pack my clothes. He even got me to the front row. " Smile and don't stop" he say's. It was fun for a minute but than I had to run away. Too close for comfort. Crazy times. Apparently it was very important that we get a bottle of Tequila at 3 in the morning. So the decision was made that we would hail a cab and go to the Southside and complete the mission. We sorta hit a dude who jumped in front the cab. Cab driver kept going and says don't worry about it, it happens all the time. Our cab pulled in front of a building with no signs and bars over all of the windows and the door . The two ladies, who were with me, decided that they didn't want go in. I really didn't want to get out of the cab either. My thinking was even if I get out of the store alive, the cab would be gone. Well it was actually quick and easy. When I walked in everyone stopped and didn't say a word. I picked out 3 nice firm limes and a quart of Tequila and walked past everyone in line since nothing was happening. Nobody protested, apparently too shocked too speak. Cashier never did say anything to me. I read the total and left an extra ten bucks. Thanks for the shows and the memories Jes!

Yep, this was my first show. Those boomers hit me smack in the face right at the beginning of West LA. and wow I was mesmerized for the rest of the show. We called Good Morning Little School girl because we had been listening to Two from the Vault which had just been released that summer. Had no idea they hadnt played it in decades but wow, it really happened. That was the shit. The Hes Gones, and Saint were great too. Awesome Iko. This show was way better than the second show. One of the best shows I ever saw. Gloria!!

I remember steve miller got booed off. The Dead came on by the third song I was dancing with this half naked girl. Next thing I remember my group was shaking me saying the show was over. I hadn't stopped dancing for the entire show and it was half an hour after the music stopped and the lights came on before they stopped me. We found my car and we drove to the Greek Family Restaurant in Downers Grove. Then I drove to some guys house in the middle of Darien that I never been to. I don't think I;ve ever driven so careful in my life. The others picked up some chicks at the show and we partied all night long at this guys house. Great 26th birthday!

@@georgearnold841 man I won't go into all the details but a group of us came up from the Kansas City area, and we came in a truck so 2 of us had to ride in back because there wasn't enough room for all of us, and I was one of the 2 the whole way there because there were girls and there is no way I could let a girl take the back while I was up front. It got cold going through St. louis even though it was late June. After the show, we were going to a parking lot by the lake to camp overnight and when we drove by two city cops directing traffic, one cop said to the other as we passed, "look at that shit." 😁 It was like a carnival all night at the parking lot and I found a good ride back as my friends in the truck decided to follow the tour and I had my experience. There is no way you could do any of that now. You can't even think about riding in the back of a truck and I did it for 500 miles.

@@dougdickason HELL to the NO! Life was a bit crazier even in the 90s. I had to work the next day. I went into work still all "peaced out" and they sent me home because I was still tripping and calling everyone Dude. The manager knew that was going to happen and had me on as an extra. I wish he would have not scheduled me at all then. It was stressful having to get into work at a specific time in that state. Specifics aren't exactly your strong point after 7 hits during the night. Worth every SECOND!

@@georgearnold841 lol yeah I wasn't as tied down then and was free to roam, which I did quite a bit. I have so many stories just from that one trip, figuratively and literally speaking. Fires on hoods of cars, dogs fighting, mysterious tanks with balloon venders, and to top it off, me and a friend thought we heard Jerry say thank you after a song, which he never did supposedly.
