Bruce throwing down those keys on Wang Dang Doodle is a reminder of just how nice the band could sound with him involved. I have my own opinions about this later Dead era, but tuning into one of my top 3 favorite tunes, Bird Song, I hear them striving and sometimes reaching for that gold ring inside the improvisational group soling/conversation when the verses and chorus all go by. They really catch a wave by the end of it. This was why I went to shows: waiting for this moment to occur in real time, unknown until it happens. I miss those days!

Back in 2005 I recorded a GD cover band, Jack Straw, at the Cubby Bear in Chicago. The second half Vince came on. I was impressed.

Sweet Jane at 24:15 gives such a Springsteen vibe when Hornsby starts playing that accordion.

I know this sounds like sacrilege but I'm starting to like summer of 91 better than summer of 90. Hornsby brings the Virginia sound

As good as they ever EVER were, from Menlo Park's Warlock daze throughout the entire strange trip to this point. Welnick (especially with vocals) and Hornsby were what was needed to fill the gap when Pig died and since it took two of them more tribute to the Pigpen (sorry Keith RIP and his screaming Donna didn't fill the whole hole for me) . The tech on this video is beyond compare and by far the finest thing put out in rock history the psychedelics during the drum solo is extraordinary to say the least (and I am). The video captures Garcia joyfully playing along with Hornsby's almost child-like enthusiasm to perform while Welnick anchors and solidifies vocals in the ranges on which they need to roam even to a point that they are truly highlights throughout the performance. Wowwwwwwwwwwww what a psychedelic delight. And the venue is about two drivers and a couple of fairway woods and maybe a six iron from East Palo Alto, Pig's old hometown so that is sweet. Note the Dead have been pretty apolitical but have made this video for a charity appeal and haven't done this too often in the past as I can remember and since for the NCAAP it sort of reminds me of the fact they did a charity performance in Oak Town for Huey Newton's birthday and I think Angela Davis' run for Prez? peace and love

first i donate every week and wish i could help you guys, you make my Friday and anything i can do to keep it going count me in. i had hundreds of tapes many soundboards and now i have most everything grateful dead has done, lots of Jerry Garcia band, and others. i have 80 video shows. i wish i could show you it is impressive so i have looked and spent many hours and looked at many web sites and none have clean organized info, for example the archive web site is an unmanageable mess i have been a a analyst and would love to build one site that has great content presented in a way that is easy to fund things

The 2nd set has already been released as bonus footage on the FRK '91 DVD, but I'm with ya. I was there too & would love to see the entire video put up. The energy was epic. Brent wailing on that Bertha when Jerry was having amp issues.

Love this story. And yes, I've been wanting to see that whole show for decades, but after reading so many reviews on archive, I've long suspected that the rain put the kibosh on video. FWIW, I was nicely high on some shrooms a couple months ago, not tooooo high but well more than a micro, and I decided to give the second set a try after a few years break. WOW. Every bit worth the legend and the hype. Full Blown Space travel. @musicdunc

Too bad the band didn't follow Hornsby into playing "The Entertainer" at 1:53:26 and 1:56:38 . Nothing bad about this show, but the August 91' Shoreline run blew these outta my memory. Though here wasmy first Warf Rat meeting was up top during set break, and I helped Rock Med mobilize a girl who had fallen. A lot of people on the live chat were less than copacetic, for some reason on this stream. Namaste to all! 🙏
