I know you may think I'm full of shit, but I invented the NFA clap in Binghamton N.Y. April 12, 1983. It was my first show and I got a 4-way window pane at intermission and it changed my life. It happened when the hit NFA, I only knew one or two songs the Dead did art that point in time, but when they went into NFA I knew Buddy Holly and I just started clapping (seven claps, not five) and my best friend Mark did it, then his brother Herbie and it just literally circled out from us...it was beyond incredible. My apologies to all the tapers back then!!!

Responding a year later lol, but this coincidence is so crazy that I have to say. I actually believe you because I was thinking about how someone had to have started the chant randomly A FEW HOURS AGO! Way too crazy of a coincidence for this to not be true.

Not as cool as being at an actual Grateful Dead show, like 9/18/88, where this chant actually made the band open the second set with NFA. Now THAT was deep.
